Favorate Weapons.. early game, midgame, endgame |
I want to know what is everyone's favorate & best weapons for ship based combat. I also want to know them catagorized into early game, midgame, endgame, and max resource & tech phase (very high tech & very expensive). Because I am new player I find myself lost which weapons to research... etc. What I catogorize as early game are weapons you can research right away or very quickly. Midgame are weapons where you research 2-3 preq techs. endgame are 4-5; max tech is any avialable.
My list so far.
Early: DUC
Midgame: meseons
Endgame: ???
thanks

lol noob alert
wats csm and du?

What's CSM/DUC
Abbreviations for weapons...
CSM = Capital Ship Missile
DUC = Depleted Uranium Cannon
-----
sorry
CSM =Capital ship Missile
DU canon = depleted uranium canon
Edit Damn you Kwock shouldent you be working on the next Balence Mod patch or somthing

hmmm
arent the green missles (i forgot what they're called) better than the capital ship missles in the balance mod? maybe im not seeing something

they are but
The green seekers could be one of several things if they are Graviton helbores than yes they are more dangerous being armour piercing but CSM's are cheap and don’t lose damage with range and if you have some one attacking one of your colonies you want to do maximum hurt at maximum range. Weapon platforms (wp) are the last space based line of defence behind
1st Mines
2nd Ships and fighters
3rd Satelites and bases
I know that WP’s are on planet but they are no use once the enemy have landed

Plasma Missiles
Yes, Plasma Missiles are intended to be a step up from CSMs in the mod.

Usually I go for missiles
Usually I go for missiles first as they are guaranteed hit on the early small (high defense rating) ships, and because any effective point-defense that an opponent can muster so early in the game would mean he'll be kept on the defensive end of weapons research for a large part of the game.
I only go for beam weapons after getting some decent combat sensors. Then I usually get Anti Proton for its range, or Phased Polaron if opponent is shield-heavy.
Early-game, I try to keep as far ahead on Propulsion as I can so that I am the one who dictates the combat (run or fight)
Mid-game, I tend to use a lot of fighters.
Late-game, I just swarm with drone carriers
I never ever make fleets without a few missile boats, though.

PLASMA MISSLES!
thats wat i was thinkin of
edit- and yeah i love anti-proton beams but i mostly use a lot of plasma missles

I use temporal weapons...
I use temporal weapons...
What about organic weapons?
What about organic weapons? Isn't the parasite missle the best antiship weapon out there? Isn't the organic acid globule the longest range beam weapon? What can beam ships do against long range missile ships? Can't you put enough missiles on ships to counteract any point defense? Just build a bunch of missile ships, and point defense ships; then beam fihgters and beam ships are screwed.
i use crystalline
i use crystalline weapons....
early, shard cannons and crystal torpedos
mid/late i add in the beam weapon on larger ships.
I use CSMs on ships and
I use CSMs on ships and weapon platforms and small DUCs on fighters and troops exclusively in both stock and BM and destroy the AI at will. This minimizes the areas to research and allows growth in other technology areas.
I think this is really a moot question until there is a capable AI available.

Quote: i agree with you
i agree with you
you will notice the ai uses these waepons fairly exclusively
i htink the ganme was designed so those are always "ok"
so the computer ai doesnt have to rsearch new weapons
in tactical, tho, you can destroy DUC ships by moving laterally.. Try it. Fast beam waepon ships dont even get hit - hte duc shells move too slow - which i 100% agree with.
also, using the parthian shot - a fast ship with csm or other torpedos- tghat stays out of range -
guarantees victory over the ai
but your last sentence is the whole truth.
unfortunately.
Anyone who wants power; by definition, cannot be trusted with it...

Re: Favorate Weapons.. early game, midgame, endgame
My favorite is Graviton Helbores. They have a very high power rating, and have a fairly good range. I usually put them on my larger ships, with hangars, and so that the fighters can chase down any long range ships, and if the big ship gets in range with a bunch of helbores...
Plus i like small frigates with wave motion guns as escorts, and a few with torps...

CSM's remain the king for weapon platforms in both games even if in the Balance Mod you don’t have the tech to multi task research as much as you do in stock so they are not at the level they would be in stock
