Feature Request for Balance Mod

Submitted by HerrDerSchatten on Fri, 2007-01-05 18:45. SE:V MODs

It is possible to force the AI to build bigger ships? I use Baseships, and the AI only builds little BCs, and only very few DDs no BS. In fact the AI needs also more ships. They have the ressources to build dozens of ships, but they didn't do, and that is sad.
May last suggestion is an script what makes the AI able to build Bases to protect warppoints..

I love your Mod, kwok!

Some AI's definatly should stress biger ships over smaller but others should stress diferent sizes

BM AI Improvements

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Fri, 2007-01-05 21:22.

More size-diversified AI ships is certainly on the checklist of things to do for the mod. I'd also recommend at least a low AI bonus to help them out a bit if you're not doing that already.

Agreed every AI needs all the help it can get

Submitted by evilginger on Sat, 2007-01-06 00:04.

Agreed every AI needs help and I always set difficulty to hard and bonus to high, its also worth limiting the number of AI's in the game to give them a chance to expand before they plough into some one else.

I'm sure people have already

Submitted by darkgift on Sat, 2007-01-06 05:17.

I'm sure people have already thought of this, but I've just started giving all AI players a big starting tech boost by choosing High tech and racial points and then only spending a fraction of the points myself to get strictly defensive and non-combat techs. (To top it off I choose Theocracy or something with a research penalty.) It generally means you'll start out 40+ tech levels behind and your L1 frigates will immediately face Destroyers with L5 proton cannons. It doesn't make the AI any smarter of course, but it means you can't take any enemies lightly during the critical growth phase, since blunders into untreatied AI territory will almost always be lethal.

To make this post more OT, Balance Mod (which is otherwise excellent) kind of spoils that adjustment by having all AI races immediately spam with treaty requests. It's more fun (and more challenging in the early game) to run into Angry AI's, but I understand why they don't start out upset.

I think Kwok's and Maran's AIs are just too friendly. Hey they bombard you with treaty requests almost as soon as they see you and if you want a war, you have to initiate it yourself more often than not... The sad thing is that i'm stuck with thoses AIs in my own mod, i have yet to work on the diplomacy part...

I agree. There is a place for friendly AI's, but what I would most like to see is a range of personalities among the AI's, as in SEIV. Right now they behave similarly, if not identically. It may just be a matter of more time needed to develop variations.

Just a thought: how about giving *just* the overly aggressive races better ship/unit construction and resource rates to make up for their higher losses?

Variety

Submitted by evilginger on Sat, 2007-01-06 10:51.

I don’t agree the AI should always be aggressive militarily it’s not fun to be attacked all the time. Maran's AIs do what they say they will do the Tarsus are peaceful and expansionistic the Vexali will spam you with Intel attacks whilst purporting to be your friend. Yes The Balance mod AI’s will offer minimal treaties early on but they don’t over do it and it takes work to upgrade the treaty if you want to. If you just want a fight ignore one of the treaties

BM AI Diplomacy

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Sat, 2007-01-06 11:23.

Keep in mind I only really started working on diplomacy in v0.99 and so lots of improvements still need to be made. Anyhow the upcoming v1.02 has some changes to help diversify the AIs diplomacy and prevent treaty spam.

Overall more aggressive races will tend to offer a non-aggression or non-interference first to buy a bit of time to build up. They should be less amenable to your ships in their space which will cause them to get angrier faster and more likely to break treaties and declare war. Some neutrals or peaceful races prefer to start with a low treaty and then sporadically offer better ones over time if their disposition towards you improves.

alliances tho

Submitted by Jagzeplin on Sat, 2007-01-06 11:28.

yes but wouldnt treaty spam be a good thing if all other races are in an alliance and so the only way to speak to one particular race so u could break that damn treaty keepin u from colonizing planets is to respond to one of their messages? just a thought

Maran's WONDERFUL AI

Maran's is still a work in progress, he's planning an entire spectrum of AIs from research/peaceful, intel, to super-Klingons.

the treaty spam in itself I

Submitted by KarateKid on Sun, 2007-01-07 11:41.

the treaty spam in itself I can live with. But isn't it possible to atleast make it so the AI gives you time to respond before sending a new treaty proposal?
Getting the same treaty proposal, or a downgraded one before your answer gets to them makes no sense to me.

Treaty Spam Reduced

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Sun, 2007-01-07 12:17.

The AI shouldn't spam you with treaty requests in the upcoming v1.02 if you don't have a treaty as it did before. Depending on the AI, there will be a variable time frame before they'll propose a treaty.
