Best defense against Fighters and Carriers

Ok, I am playing against AI to improve my skills.. and I mostly use a fleet(30-40 turns old tech) of 3-5 figates with 4DUCs, and a carrier with basic 20 figters.. I kill almost everything easily. even enemy fkeets of 10-15 ships with destroyers. Using my new tech.. I tried to design a new "ship vs ship" killer. I used battleship with messons and 4-6 PD and I still can't beat my regular old carrier design loaded with 20 figters in combat simulator.

when I play multiplayer I am scared I will not be able to counter carriers and fighters?

I am on 1.20 BTW with no mods

Fighters are overpowered in stock

Here's why you are finding it hard to counter fighters in stock: their weapons do as much as ship weapons.

A frigate with 4 DUCs and a fighter with 4 Small DUCs, both at equal tech, will do almost exactly the same damage. Because the fighters are smaller and harder to hit than any other ship type, they're insanely overpowered compared to normal ships.

If you play multiplayer, you'll probably be using balance mod. It has much better balance with most elements of the game, and has been designed with multiplayer in mind.

The AI in stock is also fairly pathetic. This is partly due to bugs and partly because MM didn't focus too much on the AI the first time around. The AI in Balance mod is also better than stock in many ways, so you might want to use BM until Maran releases his .7/.8 Tarsus AI.

Fighter Mod

I am working on a mod which will basicaly tone fighters down a bit but its slow going as I am any thing but a wiz at coding

My own private mod- aho

I prefer longer space battles so I upped the base strength for armor and shields. That had an unintended effect of lowering the effectivness of fighters slightly. They also got their defenses raised a proportionate amount but they cannot take out the capitals quite as fast to the pt defense grid gets a little more time to riddle them away.

the best way to counter fighters is with fighters its that simple.
