Preset Empires and new ship sets

Submitted by tlwhite01 on Wed, 2007-01-03 10:18. Space Empires V General

I was wondering if anyone else has had any problem first, with pullling up the preset empires on a custom game (not quick-start), and second, pulling up any of the new ship sets they may have downloaded and installed. I can not seem to get either to come up, even after all the updates have been installed. Did I have a bad install? Did I miss something while installing? Or is this something specific to me? I would appreciate any help possible on this matter. Thanks.

Custom game troubles

Submitted by Thy Reaper on Wed, 2007-01-03 10:29.

With the preset empires, are you talking about the empires you can use in quick-start not appearing for normal games, or empire files you create not appearing? There are currently no preset empires that ship with the game, you have to start a quick-start game and save the empire you wish to use, then load the empire file when starting a custom game.

You must but the shipset's folder in the empires folder. For example, the Star Trek TMP folder is 'Fed'. Putting that folder into the empires folder will make the shipset available to select when creating a new empire. Any shipsets you add cannot be accessed through quickstart without some extra effort.

Mostly that way

Submitted by tlwhite01 on Wed, 2007-01-03 10:40.

I do mean the empires that will come up in quick-start. Is there no way to "load" them on a custom game? I figured that they would be accessible through both starting point!?

As far as the ship sets, I did put them in their respective folders under Empires, but I do not see them as choices when selecting one on custom game creation (empire creation). Is there something else I haven't done, or overlooked?

I do appreciate your help tremendously. Thanks.

New game

Submitted by Phoenix-D on Wed, 2007-01-03 13:57.

New game uses .emp files, which for some reason aren't included in stock. The game does randomly generate races, so if you want them as opponents you just have to leave that on.

If you want to play them, what you do is start a Quick Start game with the empire you want, then select "Save Empire" from the main menu.

I can do that..

Thanks Phoenix-D and Thy Reaper, I'll give that a try on the empires.

But, I'm still not getting the new ship sets to show up in the selection. I reinstalled them twice and still no luck!? Any idea?

Do not save stock empires generated as AI players

Submitted by CP1985 on Wed, 2007-01-03 19:58.

I highly recommend NOT saving any empire at all for any circumstance when they are generated as an AI player. First of all they are not playable in this state. The solution is you must manually add them yourself. The reason why you can not use a saved empire file from a computer generated AI player is the empire is saved not using the design names from the Design Names folder. It is also saved with a password. To avoid this I usually open up information files for stock races from SEIV and SEV and alt tab and manually add them. For your second issue if you've installed new races they will not show up untill you add them into the Settings.txt file. Make a backup of this file first, open it up and do a search for simply the word 'Quick', it will jump down to the section where you need to add it in. Make sure you edit the field "Number of Quick Start Empires." Good luck, hopefully this helps.

Thanks tremendously!

Thank you everyone, and CP1985 for your note. Having edited the Settings.txt file everything comes up on the new ship sets. When I have a little more time I'll check into the empire settings and create them for use as noted. Again thanks to everyone for your help!
