Ring World Mod

Emtwo's picture

Any idea on how to get Rings constructed around planets? As possibly some lesser level of ringworld development/construction? I'm thinking that a constructed ring around a planet might double its usable space/storage.

Ring World

LOL, wierd mod name. Ring worlds are generally a seperate idea... you want a ring aroudn the world.

Answer? You CAN'T do that.

You'd have to build some kind of facility that increased the size.... Or could you create another type of creatable planet?

Can you specify what's at the center of your creatable planet (normally it's a star), could you specifiy that it has to be a huge planet?

SEV, more than a feeling.

I'm thinking that you would use the same Ringworld generator, grav plating and hyper cables as the full size star model, only when activated in orbit of a planet, you get a ring around that world. I wouldn't put a planet size limit on it. Tiny worlds would get tiny rings, medium worlds would get medium rings, etc... End result would be a two-fold increase in usable facility/storage and population space. Atmosphere would be the same as the planet it orbits.

Nope

Its not possible unfortunatly. You might be able to create a facility with negative tonnage, I haven't tested that, but there is no way to change the size of a planet after its been created.

Edit:

And you can't contsruct planets except around stars.

Maybe you could design a facility that increase all the space on the planet... but i haven't try yet

Yes you can

You forget about creating planets from asteroids.

HEY! THAT MIGHT WORK!! What about a component to destroy the planet in question, but then immediately re-construct it as one of the worlds you are talking about! Sure, you'd lose all your pop and facilities, but for 50 facilities on your huge planet, sure, why not? You would have to add a new planet type that can only be constructed this way, and do some tweaking, but this just might work!

IIRC, that isn't a constructed planet Sticking out tongue (I actually considered pre-emptively editing my post to make that clear, lol).

I haven't dug into the items in question, but I don't think so.

In stock, huge planets make huge asteroid fields, and huge asteroid fields make huge planets with random type/atmosphere. I don't think that behaviour is moddable in the sense you want...

You can probably get close, by creating two types of planets for each size of asteroid field, but I don't think it works that way.
