(1.20) Projectile Weapons |
In both stock and balance v1.01, projectile weapons (meson blasters, DUCs, etc) don't seem to be missing properly.
In the simulator, I placed a frigate with around 200% defense and I placed a cruiser with a 0% to hit bonus with a meson blaster.
First, I let the frigate circle the cruiser while the cruiser went to town on it. The frigate didn't get scratched. All the shots missed. That was fine.
Second, I let the frigate sit there and let the cruiser shoot it up. Every shot hit the frigate. Needless to say, the frigate got gutted.
Then I put 3x meson blasters on the cruiser and tried again with the same results. One thing I noticed was the fact that some of the shots sort of angled away, but almost all of them hit. There were a few times where a shot angled away far enough that it actually missed.
I also had the frigate chase the cruiser around while the cruiser shot at the frigate. The frigate did not last long.
One thing I did not do is change the ship set. It was a stock ship set though.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature, but if it's a feature doesn't it severely upset the balance of the game? I mean you could set your ship strategy to maximum range with a projectile weapon and force a ship to tail you. With how it works now, most if not all the mesons would hit the ship assuming the ship is in range.
Edit: Digging around the forums, I found that players have seen this quite a bit. For example, the AI ships gut your ships with a crappy combat modifier when your ships aren't moving, but can't touch your ship when your ships are moving.
