Black Hole Accretion Disk Missing

Submitted by Omnius on Fri, 2006-12-29 10:29. Space Empires V General

I finally found a black hole and it sure looks much cooler than in SE4. The only thing missing is the glowing accretion disk in the six hexes immediately adjacent to the black hole itself to designate a feeding black hole. Now that would be a nice touch of stellar reality.

They are also a lot nastier than they used to be in SEIV. A glowing acreation disk would make them lokk even cooler I agree

Glowing accretion disk of DOOM!

Submitted by Thy Reaper on Fri, 2006-12-29 11:45.

I must say, I prefered the look of black holes in SE:IV, but I was never quite sure why. This is it. I missed the accretion disk. If MM added that in again, eventually, I would risk hunt for black holes just because of how cool they look Smiling

I have lost more ships to them

Submitted by evilginger on Fri, 2006-12-29 16:52.

I have lost more ships to them in a couple of months playing SEV than I ever recall doing with SEIV which I played for a couple of years. I habitually mark them as systems to avoid to prevent minister controlled ships taking short cuts through them (I can still hear the screams of the trapped colonists).

Navigating Black Holes

Submitted by Omnius on Sat, 2006-12-30 09:23.

I like to stay around the edges of black holes as I traverse them manually. It looks like you travel 4 hexes instead of 2 towards the black hole. I also discovered they automatically travel at the beginning of the turn as I watched one travel back to the hex it was in. I figured it's better to clear the ship movement after it's finished and then plot the next move to be the warp point exit.
