Warp Point Fleet Ships Fleeing

Submitted by _squeege_ on Mon, 2006-12-25 07:01. Space Empires V FAQs

I am having a nasty problem keeping warp points protected. I use a few large ships along with a carrier to protect warp points. When another race comes through the warp point, my ships attack when they are in range, but they always move towards the retreat line. After several fights, they reach the retreat line, and are then no longer protecting the warp point.

I have tried setting the ships strategies differently - Optimal, Short, Point Blank, Fighter Attack - as well as creating multiple task forces with different strategies, and nothing I've tried has helped.

Is anybody else seeing this, or have solved it? I am now at a loss as to what to do next.

Wierd...

Do they have supplies and ordinance? Probably so, since they are fighting, but worth checking...

Other than that, I'm stumped. I generally use bases for WP defense, when I'm not busy modding.

Yeah, they do. In fact, in my current game, they only have beam weapons just for to see if that helps. It didn't make any difference.

You mean that your ship retreat on their own or that after each fight they appear farther and farther from the warp point (or at the spot they where at the end of the last fight)?

perhaps set them away form the warp zone?

Submitted by malefic on Tue, 2006-12-26 16:10.

I tend to defend my warp points in this manner...

1) Ships a few spaces away from the warp point. (I do this so I can have one large stack protecting multiple entry points (if they are relatively close in range)

2) as soon as I get mines I dump as many as I can and keep a force there incase

3) Space station (I never get to this point against the computer unfortunately Sad )

I am always timid to drop forces right on a warp point because I prefer to see who is coming through that way I can gauge whether or not I want to intercept them or shadow them and wait for reinforcements.

Yeah, i don't like my forces to engage everything that move on sight, they could end up attacking a ship(s) from one i want to be friend with.

Yes, that they head away from the warp point during every battle, until they eventually reach the retreat line. At that point, they are no longer on the warp point on the system map, and thus are no longer protecting the warp point.

I'll check the link out. Thanks.

Make sure your ships have

Submitted by cordas on Fri, 2006-12-29 08:37.

Make sure your ships have supplies and ordiance (if they need them). If that fails just manually control them and fly them to the warp point.

If your problem is other than a lack of supplies / ordinance then post an issue report, and attach a copy of your saved game.

Thats the issue reporting page.

Mixing ships

Submitted by evilginger on Fri, 2006-12-29 11:16.

Some ships always run off regardless of the strategy set, repair ships are typical of this. Make sure that they are in an other task force from your fighting ships. If you forget pause the combat and order the fleet to beak formation. The attack ships will move to intercept and the repair ships will stay out of the way near the retreat line but they will not cross it. Occasionally you will have to put fleets back together if you do this but not often as occasionally the repair ships will become separated from the attack ships.

Various

I've tried all of the possible solutions suggested here, and it's still happening. This is so strange to me.

At this point, I've just started using fighters only to protect warp points, and it mostly works. Not an ideal solution, but better than nothing until I figure this out.

Satellites are allways a

Satellites are allways a good pick to defend warp points I find, cheap, dispossable if something ugly comes through, yet good to pick small things off quick.

I finally ran into this

Submitted by malefic on Thu, 2007-01-11 02:48.

I finally ran into this problem.. the computer ran colony ships one by one into the a warp point and my ships would move closer to the egde of the retreat line as they destroyed the incoming vessels with fighters.. all I could do to move them back was when the combat was over and it was my turn I moved the fleets off the warp point and back onto it which resets them back close to the warp point.

Ships fleeing

Submitted by Dukat on Thu, 2007-01-11 03:08.

Dunno if this helps..

I have had this several times and every single time it was caused by ONE or more ships in a fleet(s) (even separate fleets) being severely damaged, such that it could not fight and or move. Removing that ship from the fleet causes the AI to continue to defend my warp point for me. Remeber not to look at a fleet for supplies and ordnance, but at at ships.

The annoying thing is I sometimes have two or three fleets blocking a warp point and one of the ships in one of the fleets has no weapons left so ALL ships flee the battle.

Strange thing...

Submitted by Fallen Haven on Thu, 2007-01-11 21:30.

But i did not experience this once in my mod. Maybe one of the changes i did fixed the problem. For sure the enemy vessels i encounter guarding warp points are never away, even if i have engaged them in the previous turns.
