Do WP's and Bases need their own supplies/ordinance?

Submitted by Daedalus on Sat, 2006-12-23 15:46. Space Empires V FAQs

Title says it all - or do they take from the planet, like in SEIV?

Thanks

WP's Odbital bases and Supply

Submitted by evilginger on Sat, 2006-12-23 16:03.

WP's Don’t and I don’t think you can add these components to them, Orbital bases do especially if they are built away from planets. Orbital bases do use supplies but not ordinance at a reduced rate remember that they do not have the intrinsic storage capacity of engines so they are out of supply from the start if you don’t put one in at all.

Supply and Ordinance

Weapon Platforms have infinite ordinance/supply during combat. Bases need to have onboard storage and use both supply and ordinance at full rates -- I think the other guy was trying to say they don't need to use supplies for movement, which reduces the major supply drain for ships to 0.

The description of bases

Submitted by cordas on Sun, 2006-12-24 02:36.

The description of bases says that they use less supplies for day to day maintanence. Also as they have no engines they don't get the huge amount of storage that engines provide, any engine at tech lvl 5+ holds enough supplies to opperate the ship without extra storage until you get to dreadnaught or baseship.

As for WPs they now "officaly" get supplies and ordinance in their potentail components list. I would say this means that they are there to be used. Its quite easy to imagine a scenario when the planet has no ord or supplies available because it has just been visited by a hungry ship / fleet. This would then mean that the WP would only have available to it what it stores itself, yes the guns can hold some but not enough to see off a determined attack, adding in 1 of each type of storage is only 10tons total and will mean that your WPs should have enough to last them a fairly serious engagement.

Makes sense...

WPs can plan to use the common pool at the planetary level, and hope enough remains, or hoard their own in supply and ordinance components. I kind of like that...

For combat purposes, WP's / planets have infinite supplies and ordinance.
