Star Trek ships ? |

Ive seen some posts here, Spaceempires.net, and at the schrapnel forum regarding shipsets for Star Trek for SEV, but nothing recently (last couple of weeks). Is anyone pursuing this ? Do you need assistance ?

Just got a Balance Mod game started - the ships look great so far - but the Colony ship icon at the solar system level is a tad too big and dark.

I'm working on the Klingons right now, as soon as i get them fleshed out (I may end up having to break down and actually model a weapon platform and satellite first though) I'll post them to filefront. After that the Romulans will be next...
Yeah, I know, I wanted her to be bigger, but I'll be improving on this shipset as I go so the feedback helps.. seems I'm not sure how to get it to lighten up though I think that might be a result of the blueish textures...

Oh, before I forget...
I'm already working on the AI files for this shipset, I'll post a new version when I get them finished. What I'm planning on doing is having 2 links, the first for people who have already downloaded the shipset and all they need is the AI, and the second for a newer version of the set itself.

B) Why didn't you just PM 'em, that'd be more appropriate... (albiet, given the default way the forum handles PM's, it can be hard to realize you've gotten one unless you're watching it -- it doesn't give you an e-mail or nothin when you get one unless you change settings).

Normally I only visit the mod forums.. I dont get much time on the PC often, so I hit what I'm interested in... I think Jared_Torval is just trying to get all us Star Trek modders/shipset makers together... I've already popped off a PM for just such a thing. Well see what comes of it...

change in ships?
I have been fanatically playing this shipset for the last 24 hours (I need sleep and a life - I know).
Is there any chance that the dreadnought (a fine ship) could be replaced by the Yamamoto from SFC 1 and 2 (most of these ships are from SFC or from Pneumonic - a great game and a great modeller).
The Yamamoto was large and really gave you the feeling that this was the definitive answer to capital ship firepower.

Necro...great job. If you and your collaborators decide to turn your ships into a full-blown ST mod and need a fully qualified treknology expert, let me know. I've got so many ideas for a trek mod but no modding ability to get it done, so let me know. I'd love to help get this done.
Ship Changes
Yes, in the next release there will be several ship changes to appease those who want me to give a more reasonable credit list. I'll be changing the Space Station model, the BB, DN, Satellite, DD and the CA model. Once that's finished we'll see where this all ends up...

p.s. In SC and SC2, the Dreadnoughts are suppose to be smaller than the Battleships (switch them around in SEV?)

Interesting AI discoveries...
I had gotten into a strange situation because of an alliance I had created with AI Players... I was no longera ble to "see" them in the interface- could not talk to them - even break treaties or declare war - because EVERY known race was in the alliance! - only when one contacted me was there a reply option.
What was worse is that every other turn or so, the alliance would vote me in AGAINST MY WISHES!.. Allowing empires i was specifically at war with to escape blockades or attacks because the terms of the alliance included non-aggression...
Not to mention it let them steal my technology- since i couldn't REFUSE to join the stupid alliance.
BUT THIS IS NOT THE POINT>
Aggravated, I deceied to use the ~allplayershuman~ cheat to make the alliance shatter. While i was at it, i was going to fix some little problems like the AI not building fighters- fix fighters for them- such a disappointment to go into a system expecting a battle royale against your hated opponent only to find he has no fighters on those beautiful carriers you were afraid of...
I planned on fixing that, breaking the alliance, and having various empirers surrender to each other or to what was left of the alliance so that i was the human player...
Discoveries of a Mad Voyeur
1. The AI doesnt build fighters for its carriers. This was a great disappointment since i had been so frightened on seeing carriers in a new system and had tweaked my strategies in preparation for the Ultimate Show down!
2. The ai does not refit.
It has a seemingly endless supply of worthless obsolete ships floating around...
3. The AI carries on very pointless technology research unrelated to racial strengths or to any apparent strategy or situations occuring. appears absolutely NonAdaptive.
4. The politics betweeen the AI empires,
despite being in an alliance, was really impressive. The only good discovery i found.
5. It builds "antiship"drones with no weapons or warheads.
6. The AI is too specific in non-combat ship design.It ends up witha n endless array of satellite droppers, mine layers, etc that as i can see ends up with about half its fleet being "utility" ships that do nothing during an invasion.
If it either outfitted them with missiles, or better yet, had 1 or 2 " utility ships"- freighters with 1 satellite component and 1 mine conmponetnt- these work for troops, mines, and satellites- it would take less "planning" and thinking for the Ai i believe.
It WAS 'interesting' to think i was vastly outnumbered and then discover my arch-nemesis (an ally who had turned on me and Razed my home system while my fleet was away!) had 50% or less COMBAT SHIPS. Of these, 1 in 10 ? was current. this was almost as much of a disappontment as the carriers-enemy.
7.The ai builds troop transports (totally unarmed!) BUT NO TROOPS! Come to think of it, i have never seen the AI invade AT ALL.. Only bombard...

About every of your complaints have been fixed in my Inter-Related mod. Every new version i try to improve the game, but theses days i work mostly on the AI as most of the game ballance has been done.
My AI is better in every way to the stock one. It build large fleets, upgrade them often and has many designs types so it's hard to beat it with a specific counter design. It does research well, colonize well and is much more aggressive than stock. I'm still waiting for game reports from my latest version, but i believe my AI should give most players a run for their money...
Balence Mod
I have to add that the balance Mod also fixes all of you points Badger. The Ai's in both the Interrelated Mod and the Balance Mod will do all of the things you complain rightly that the stock AI will not do.
At the moment the programmer is sorting out bugs not working on the AI but there are plenty of people who are

The first step would be starting a new thread, rather than pointlessly bumping a 13 month old thread... Step two is to type in grammatically correct language, with punctuation and all, so that your readers will be more willing to read and respond to posts. Thirdly, ask specific questions about what you are having trouble with. "How do you mod" is too vague for us to say much about.
