Are you on the latest patch, 1.20? I read in the notes this issue was fixed, but have not confirmed.

what thread related info can you really fit in here that makes sense...

I heard this was fixed and am currently builing intel centers so I can give this ago. It was one of my favourite stratergies in SEIV, capturing enemy ships and stealing tech from them.

??fixed by 1.2

Submitted by evilginger on Wed, 2006-12-20 13:43.

I believe this is fixed and the only reason you won’t get techs is that there are none to be gleaned from analysing the ship. I have not tried this as I am rubbish at doing ship captures so rarely have ships to analyse. I also use Intel defensively more than not. The ships which defect to me are usually miles away when they do so and dont get to a ship yard all that quickly

Of topic I am dyslexic myself so this is not a spelling flame but if you can please spell check your posts as at the moment they are a bit hard to read. This was cut and pasted into Word and spellchecked BTW

I was debating about mentioning that myself. Eye-wink It's not just the spelling but also terrible sentence structure as well. I figure it's one of two things - either English is not his native language or he's about 10 years old. Eye-wink

Average age of players/posters

Submitted by glockgemini on Wed, 2006-12-20 17:04.

Average age of players/posters seems to be pre high school english or so their postings imply. Since this is an international game, I assume that English is a second language for many.

Correct, But Probably NOT This Time ;)

Yes, i understand quite well that we have a VERY international group here. But I just checked his profile and with a name like "Michael Matthews" I'd hardly think english is NOT his native language. Eye-wink Just a plain case of sheer illiteracy I suspect. (Ha-ha-ha) Smiling

spelling flames

Submitted by evilginger on Fri, 2006-12-22 13:11.

Can we not have this thread turn into a spelling flame war. Dyslexia is not fun and being dyslexic I am quite prepared to give the original poster the benefit of the doubt with this one. Hence my posting of some advice to him by way of an aside.

As for illiteracy that’s cool or I think so being illiterate in four languages myself Smiling

And I can truthfully say that I'm Illiterate in ALL languages except English! Eye-wink

I just happened to hit this thread in passing while looking at "My Most Recent Posts." It just caught my curosity but I'm quite finished with it now. Eye-wink Sorry if it appeared I was being an agitator - not intended in the least.

Communication

Submitted by Rilbur on Fri, 2006-12-22 13:47.

Telling a guy that he's failing at the basic purpose of language -- communication -- isn't starting a flame war; its helping him out with the fact that no one can help him because we can't understand him.

And some of us are more "sensitive" to spelling issues than others... I couldn't make heads or tails of his post untill after I read some of the others and realized "anlize" was "analyze", and by extension "pusauds" was probably "persuade".

which is what I was trying to do

Submitted by evilginger on Fri, 2006-12-22 14:00.

Which is what I was trying to do without putting the original poster off as its quite easy to put people off by criticizing there spelling and most dyslexic people are a bit(very) sensitive to that. I don’t want to put any one off but was trying to help. Enthusiastic posters are to be encouraged not put off I feel.

Thank you, MM, for explaining and for standing up for yourself. I have a small problem with it myself and as a result I type very slowly and carefully (and often use a spellchecker).

There's certainly no apology needed from YOU but I feel one is from me. I'm very sorry that it looked like I was "picking on you." I learned long ago to laugh at my problem - and sometimes it CAN cause something quite humerous to appear in my writing/typing. Smiling So my problem is a standing joke (on me) among those who know me and I enjoy it along with them. So I suppose this is all a good example of where someone (meaning me) should NOT treat others as they want to be treated.

Again, sorry.

Use a spellchecker, as has been sugested... I don't have any problem with your spelling except in that it makes it hard for me to understand you.

You really ought to put that through a grammar checker, it should be "their spelling" not "there spelling".

As it happens I did but it was the one on MS word which doesn’t see the difference between their and there and being dyslexic I missed it on my proof reading. I never said I was perfect Smiling

Submitted by neofit on Tue, 2006-12-26 10:17.

Folks, give Firefox 2.0 a try, it has a built-in spell checker. As I am typing this in this very forum window, "spaec empirs" are both underlined. You can also right-click on the underlined word for suggestions just like in Word. It just helped me correct half a dozen words already, too bad it doesn't help with grammar and sentence structure Smiling.

For the record mm1145 I understood you perfectly.

I used to be a teacher for kids with severe learning issues and I have weird knack for reading such work. I have a touch of dyscalcula myself so don't ask me to remember your phone number. Laughing out loud

On several occasion i was the one making the translation to thoses that could not do it. The funny thing is that english isn't my first language Smiling. Might have to do with my knack at understanding code lines of all kind...

Is Analyze working in 1.20 or not?

Submitted by ThiloiFederation on Wed, 2006-12-27 11:39.

I don't mean to steal the spotlight from the spelling bee Smiling but I was wondering if we could return to the original topic for a moment. Has anyone confirmed Analyze and Deconstruct to be working or not in version 1.20? I have used it a few times but I haven't been keeping notes on the results; however, I seem to remember receiving a tech or two the very first time I used it, but despite the expected results being higher than none, I don't think I have received any techs with the last few attempts. Also, does anyone know how the expected results values are calculated and is that aspect working properly? i.e. What exactly is Minor results? One tech, two techs?

When did they release that? And how come my firefox copy hasn't auto-updated to it?

I can't say for sure, maybe 1-2 months ago. I don't even remember if my old Firefox did the update automatically. IIRC I read about it on some forums then went to firefox.com and downloaded the 2.0 version. It installs well over the old 1.5 version, I didn't have to reinstall.

To answer the question

Submitted by papascott1234 on Tue, 2007-01-09 00:58.

In fact analysing the captured ships definately ives you bonuses. My current favorite trick is to sabotage fleets of civs with a higher level of tech simply to receive their bonusses. As ab aside, its unfortunate that our spelling and grammer is growing worse over time. Do any of us really care though. Enjoy the game and read a dictionary at another time.
