This is a significant issue unless this is as intended

Description

Hi,

I like to play gas giant races. After generating several maps as an ancient race and looking at the planets it seemed to me that there were generally fewer gas giants than ice or rock. I noticed in the SystemTypes file that the numerous tiny no atmosphere planets would mean far fewer tiny gas giants (which is fine, I have a hard time with that concept anyhow), however it still appeared to me that there were generally fewer gas giants of the other sizes too.

I also noticed in the SystemTypes file that for normal planets the lines were size, atmosphere, composition. I don't know code, but if the lines are executed in that order then that would mean that every time an atmosphere of none was generated then that would preclude that planet from being a gas giant. I changed the order for all normal planets in my SystemTypes file to size, composition, atmosphere and anecdotally it seems to me that there are generally more gas giants in the maps I have generated.

Since at the beginning under Number of AnyChance Types the probabilities are one third apiece, I believe that it was intended for all planet types to be roughly equally represented (except for the tiny no atmosphere ones), and so if my observation is correct this is a significant game balance issue I should think.

Thank you,

Paul

Are you saying that the problem is the game will not allow planets with "None" atmospheres to also be of the type "Gas Giant"? This seems to make sense to me; gas giants need, like, gas in their atmospheres.. Smiling

i think he means the order should be composisition first then the other two. that way the system will create an equal number of each type of planet then determine its size and atmosphere. i agree if this is the order that the system generates planets then it would create fewer gas giants under the current order.
