major bug bear of mine

Submitted by cordas on Mon, 2006-12-18 06:01.

major bug bear of mine really.

Building WPs is vital at certain points in the game, however I tend to destroy them as soon as that reason has passed (well leave 1-3 on huge and large worlds) and station a couple of warships at the Warp Point so they can do cycled upgrades. Then if I need WPs I have a turn or mores warning to build my latest and greatest WPs as by now my old ones ain't got a hope in hell.

As I have mentioned elsewhere I am a big proponent of having Milita Weapons Platforms for larger colonies, as these would be auto created by the game and always be of new tech.

240+ millon pop = 1 MWP
990+ = 2 MWP
1900+ = 3 MWP
3800+ = 4 MWP
7500+ = 5 MWP
then + 1 MWP for every 10,000 million pop (for ring and sphere worlds)

I have set the number at slightly below the max pop for breathable planet sizes to allow for the fact that with migration its rare to have a fully populated planet.

I think these numbers will give the planet enough protection to see off a random attack, but not enough to protect it from an invasion force. If you want you could also lower the storage capabilites of planets to take these into account, but I don't think its needed.

Hopefully the unit retrofit

Hopefully the unit retrofit option can be added in the future patches. I hope so....

unit retrofit

Submitted by Prankowski on Mon, 2006-12-18 07:52.

i guess that would be more a thing for a mod.
if i remember right unit retrofit wasn´t possible in the other SE versions so i wouldn´t count on it to be implemented.
maybe you should ask around in the modders corner if someone could make it possible by a mod.

Unit Scrapping

Submitted by Psieye on Mon, 2006-12-18 08:15.

Unit retrofitting doesn't work. This wouldn't be so bad if there was an efficient way to Scrap Units though - i.e. a 'condensed view' in the scrapping window. If I have 300+ troops/fighters that now become obsolete, there's no way to get rid of them quickly to make space. Same with Weapon Platforms - I can order important places to build the latest easily enough (multi-choice construction window), but I'd need to go through the cargo list of planets and note down which need purging of obsoletes. Afterall, late game it takes ages to get the Colonies list up each time.

Actually, I guess there is a quick way to get rid of obsolete troops - build a minimalistic Frigate with no engines and 1 self-destruct device along with a bunch of cargo bays. With fighters/satellites, I guess you could launch them then Scrap the unit group.

You can easily scap numerous

Submitted by cordas on Mon, 2006-12-18 11:29.

You can easily scap numerous fighters, troops and weapons platforms. Just load them onto a transport then have the transport jetison them, you don't get the resources back but these tend to be piddly amounts that are insignificant by the time I think about scrapping old troops rather than letting them be killed in battle.

That doesn't sound realistic, wasting time and more mouse clicks.....

But yeah, better than nothing.
