Question on system types |
If you are scouting with colony ships and you find a system with no sun or a binary system, can you assume there are no habitable planets in them? And go straight to the nearest warppoint?
Or do binary and sunless systems sometimes have habitable planets?
Thanks,
Javaslinger

Asteroid systesm are great,
Asteroid systesm are great, but not for early colony ships. Just look for warp points and get out.
Asteroids are really usefull once you get satalites and resource gathering above level 10 (when you get remote miners) then just start making sats with miners on them and seed asteroid fields for fac free resource gathering.
This is even better because asteroids tend to be far better than planets for resource gathering, I have seen asteroids with 300%!!!!
Also once you get into the very late game and have lots of levels on stella manipulation you can turn asteroid fields into new planets
Just add a planet destroyer and repair bay to the same ship and you can carry on making and breaking the planet untill you get one with the atmosphere you want (becareful you haven't signed a foolish treaty that stops you from destroying planets). This is also a far quciker way to make breathable planets than using atmosphere converters

I've only been playin' a few
I've only been playin' a few days but I have several Binary Sun systems that some very good planets. I traded early with an Ice planet Race my Rock colony tech for their Ice planet Tech. Now I can colonize both when I find a new unoccupied system.
I have found 1 (I'm assuming) Blackhole system. The warp point was on the edge and clums of reddish brown matter was spiralling to where the Sun should've been. I warped back out. Any thing you can do with a system like that?

bollocks to subjectfields you are the bane of this forum!

This could have been a gas nebula... they have large amounts of cloud in them as well, check the center of the system to see if it has a blackhole in it. Just becareful as blackholes can suck you in (between 1-3 movement hexes a turn) so make sure you end your movement at least 4 away from the middle. If you click on the blackhole and get more info it will tell how strong it is.
......
I have seen those systems they are black holes there may be other warp points usually around the edge but stay away from it until you have better sensors so you can tell with out getting to close to where the sun should be as that’s where the black hole is.
I believe Stella manipulation can create or destroy black holes but I have never done it. It’s a very late game activity
Black Holes
I have a mine layer trapped in a black hole system. It has taken damage so it can only move three hexes a turn. It then gets dragged back three hexes. Supplies are running out, down to about 900. Ovbviously when supplies run out he will only have a movement of one hex a turn. So he will die horribly about four turns later. I have sent a repair ship to repair and resupply him. Will it get there in time? This would be an ideal situation for a tractor beam equipped ship to pull him out. But at the moment I believe tractor beams can not be used in situations like this.

So basically till I get better tech, scout the edges for other Warp Points and the get the **** outta Dodge! Gottcha!
Thanks!

Actually, don't even scout, just run
Enlarge the system map and you can see where the warp points should be. Set map view to the default one and you can figure out which direction the warp point is in, then get the hell out of the system ASAP.

Hmmmm nothing scary about
Hmmmm nothing scary about about black holes, it ain't like SEIV when you could get damaged going through the warp gate into the system. They tend to be too slow to be of any risk to humna players as long as you are careful, just check any ships you auto-route through the system as the AI isn't clever enough to finish its movement at a safe distance from the hole.
Master class (random Quote)
Black holes no threat to human players unless you use auto survey it or the ship is under the control of a minister once located its best to mark them to be avoided to prevent your losing ships under AI control

I see what you mean about quotes
Binary systems can have planets only systems with no stars full of nebulae or asteroids are not good signs and generally have no planets Binary and Trinary systems will have planets may very well have useable ones.
The only reason I scout otherwise empty systems is to locate the warp points and to seed them with observation satellites if they fall within the borders of my empire
