Removing Mines

Submitted by Ebonyknight on Thu, 2006-12-14 18:45. Space Empires V General

I have conquered several planets with enemy mines. I know how to toggle off the mine field display so that I can move there, but the populations keep complaining of enemy ships (I have conquered the system) and I believe it's the enemy mines.

The only time I seem to be able to sweep is when I enter a sector where I haven't identified the mines. I have moved my minesweeper over the planet and hit B to sweep the mines, but they apparently remain.

How do you sweep known minefields?

If you look under Empire

If you look under Empire options you change how your ships respond to minefields by default.

Just becareful if you do this, as if its a possible shortest route when you tell a ship to move it will happily fly into the minefield.

The "Marked Minefields" does not mean there is actually a minefield there, merely that you think there is a minefield there. As a rule of thumb, if you went into the sector and hit those mines last time, if you lived through the experience, there are no longer any mines. I never use minesweeper ships, I just clear them Polish Minesweeper style. AI mines suck.

yeah but there should be a way to get the minesweepers to be more effective at doing their jobs without killing themselves
