How does one Mod an AI?

redbullbear68's picture
Submitted by redbullbear68 on Thu, 2006-12-14 14:58. Space Empires V General

If one were interested how would you tinker with an AI file?
Where are they?
What do you need to edit them?

Thanks

File locations for AI Modding

The AI source scripts are found in the Utilities\ScriptParser\SE5EmpireScripts folder. Typically you are modifying the Script_AI_xxxxxx files and then compiling the [Empire]_Main_Script.txt files to produce the actual .csf files - which are then stuck back into the appropriate Empires folder for each race.

This 'compiling' of which you speak. What does one need to do the compiling?

You'll find the ScriptParser.exe in ScriptParser folder - it does the compiling.

If you look at forums »

If you look at forums » Support & Feedback » Scenarios & Mods » SE:V MODs You will find more than few threads that will give you an idea of where to start and what is being doone currently.

Take a peek at the wiki and the AI section, there is a link off of the main page.

ooooo nice

Thanks for the link.

Is there any documentation that would make Modding AI's easier? Like Modding AI's for idiots? I can probably figure it out but a shortened learning curve would be spiffy.

Well you can rip apart my AI

Submitted by maran on Fri, 2006-12-15 15:39.

Well you can rip apart my AI source files to see how I have achieved certain things, kwok has his source files on his balance mod site also which might help.

There is no guide at the moment, I have been meaning to write one but its a learning curve I and probably everyone else are still on. If you ask me a question or 'how can I do this' in a thread or a post of your own however, the chances are I've come across your problem already and will do my best to help, certainly someone will have come across the problem your having.

I did run my own thread here at one point, which took me from knowing nothing about the AI to having a functional knowledge about how it works (some of the more advanced points I am still pinning down)

My early thread was this one, not all of the information is accurate but it might speed up your own learning process:

If you run your own thread i'll help when you get stuck or just post questions when you do.

I should note reading up on

Submitted by maran on Fri, 2006-12-15 15:41.

I should note for the more advance stuff, reading up on C++ case and if statements will help, also knowing how arrays (lists) work will help you, they are not completely the same as C++ and I had to remind myself of the basics when I started.

There are some txt files listing all the functions you can use in your utility folder, anything else you have to create yourself.
