"Choosing" Races to Play Instead of Randomly Selected by Game

Submitted by Obi-Wan Kanobi on Mon, 2006-12-11 22:55. Space Empires V General

In SE IV in game setup you could click on the "Add Existing" button which allowed you to "select for yourself" which computer races you want to play against.

I'm afraid I don't see that button in SE V. It appears that there is no way for me to select which races I want to play against, and I am forced to let the setup engine randomly pick them.

Is there a way to select them now, that I don't see?

If not, then is it planned to add this feature later?

You can add computer

Submitted by Stump86 on Mon, 2006-12-11 23:13.

You can add computer controlled empires the same way you can as in SEIV. The only difference in SEV is that there aren't any pre-made races to choose from. You have to make your own and designate then as computer controlled. When you're making a game click the add existing empire button and then make the computer controlled race. Be sure to save them so you don't have to remake them for every game you make.

Make your own...

No pre-saved empire files exist by default. Eventually someone will make some though - but you can do it for yourself if you'd like. Start a game with a high number of opponents on your preferred settings. Then in the options menu, switch all the AI players to human - their passwords will be master. Then save each AI empire and there you go.

What?! 'No premade races?'

Submitted by Obi-Wan Kanobi on Mon, 2006-12-11 23:38.

What?! 'No premade races?' But that is standard for this type game.

The game box (or somewhere) says that the game comes with 14 or so premade computer controlled races to play against. This is what I am talking about.

In SE IV in game setup you could click on the "Add Existing", so you could pick for yourself several of these premade races to play against, instead of having Setup up randomly pick them.

Premade computer controlled races to play against, with their coresponding AI's, has always been a standard for space 4X games.

It seems to be most likely that this feature, to "choose" which premade, stock races to play against, will be added later.

Choosing

Submitted by Rilbur on Mon, 2006-12-11 23:42.

The "premade" empires aren't available for selection.

And, IIRC, rather htan loading empire files to make them, the AI actually runs through a list of settings to make them, kinda like we do only automated and without the UI.

If you want to select them

Submitted by azacool89 on Tue, 2006-12-12 00:40.

If you want to select them then go to quick game (or what ever) and save the empire. then go to narmal game and change them to cpu controlled and resave them.

Alternate way

Submitted by Psieye on Tue, 2006-12-12 07:06.

Go to Settings.txt and fiddle around with "number of computer players to actually generate when you say 'High'" and which of the pre-made empires it can pick. Long winded, but this way you're guaranteed to face the empires you want.
