Basics of AI modding

I'm taking a stab at understanding AI modding. What programs do I use, I take it that notepad isn't what we use.

What are these CSF files?

Can you open one once you've generated it, and what software do you use to open them?

Is the scripting process one direction, you do it in a txt format then convert it to csf, or can you reopen a csf file?

Awhile ago I made a very basic wiki page about it, which might aid you with the basics.

Its very much a trial and error process. You require the scriptparser program in the utility folder and the various AI_Script files located in the SE5EmpireScripts directory.

Notepad works fine but you'll need to compile the races main and setup file using the scriptparser, which creates the csf file. If you back these script files up, you can create several different AI's to work together.

I have explained it in more detail in wiki however, under the AI scripting section.

Is the link

As far as I know, there is no way to open a csf file but there is no need to, you just compile and copy over it.

Maran, I've done a little

Maran, I've done a little research... On the wiki website it mentions that you have to wait for SEV to use your new race before your AI gets used in a game... I Think I've found a way to get your AI used...

In the Data/Ministers folder you can add a new profile for instance your new race, then when your doing your "empire setup" on the empire details page the last tab is "overall minister style" when you click on this arrow you can choose your races minister style. I guess this implies that a fully automated eniemy race is basically on full minister control.

I'm pretty sure this is the connection your looking for, when you open up the minister style txt file it points to all the various csf files and txt files that are race profiles.

Normally this folder just points towards default scripts, but they could point towards your new race files.

Wow thanks, just tested it, I shall updated the wiki with this and my race thread immediately.

That solves all the problems i've had to face to date with setup Smiling
