What's the Point? |

What is the Point behind the Points you get for posting?
Is it just to see your name on a list, or is there a real purpose behind it?
It reminds me of a gimmick to save valuable points to spend at the company store.
Only 3,000,000 points for this fine SIF SEV key chain! Just add shipping costs of $29.99!

I must admit...
seeing my name 4th from the top of anything even a meaningless list is kind of cool.
Yeah, but you get me
Yeah, but you get me b***hing if you get up there with endless monologues *coughs wade *coughs

Points = posts
Points are really just number of posts - but because you get them for things like blogs or books or whatever, I guess they called them points.
I guess it is supposed to be a measure of contribution or something but by calling them points they make it sound too "contest like" or like ratings.

Points
You can cash them in for a Phong plushie doll.
Racial Points
Oh man, I thought they could be cahsed in for extra Racial Points in PBW games.
free race named after you?
free race named after you?

dwiebe18ians just doesn't
dwiebe18ians just doesn't quite ring true though.

Points
When I was a Beta Test Coordinator for another game, we used the number of post to help us identify people we might want as testers. We also looked at the type of post but the number helped us narrow the list down.
People Posting More.
It might drive some people to post more just to see there name move up the list.
Therefore getting more interaction from the players.
Spam?
It is spam only if someone does not have something interesting or useful to say.
I was mainly talking about people that will browse a forum with out adding anything to it.

(In reference to me):What the heck? Again, I'll say it.

What the heck? This time you used my name. The other time you stated, "If this monologue continues, people might start accusing you of padding your post score." That is in 'Website Suggestions'\'Suggestions for changes or improvements to Space Empires Universe'.
. Again, I'll say it. "I could care less about the points. This is supposed to be a forum where ideas are expressed."
Where are my "endless monologues" that you refer to. I have posted many ideas. Some of my ideas I transfered over from another site happy that there is an "Official" site now. I assumed that this site wanted/needed thoughts, observations, suggestions, and questions. Is this a "forum" for friendly conversation and sharing of ideas? Or is it going to become an adolecent competition filled with one liner catch lines and jokes?
-Is there a time limit that we must wait before posting again?
-Must we wait for someone else to post after our post? How long should we wait?
-Must we "edit" in order to express another idea? If so then how? Currently there is not always an "edit" choice. It seems random. Check it out.
-Should we avoid long paragraphs as if we are all simple minded with short attention spans or as if this was a "chat" place and not a forum?
Maybe you could post a long list of your interpretations of this forums rules, guidelines, and etiquite. Are they very draconian?
-Must we be constantly concerened on wether to post?
Should we be "lurkers" who prefer not to post?
-Should we view this site as our game home of peace and friendship with out pressure or should we look elswhere?
-Did I break my ideas into "one liners sentences" enough and avoid the "endless monologue" paragraphs that some might not have...patience for? (Maybe if all the sentences and paragraphs of this site were not crammed together then the reading would be easier.)
-What did I do to catch your attention? You never even introduced yourself. Who are you? What are your ideas?
Just some thoughts, observations, and questions? I wonder where this will lead and how long this thread will become.

(edit: This post should have gone to the bottom of this thread. Should I copy and paste it there or will that bother someone?)

Re: Points
I signed up for some online multiplayer space strategy game where you could get extra points for your "race" for just about anything. Posts, trivia, giveaways, etc. Unfortunately the game wasn't that great. You go through "missions" but if you got too big some other empire could attack you even if you never seen them before.

LOL
