Graphics issues.

Submitted by Brew on Fri, 2006-12-08 18:58. Space Empires V General

Hi all,

Im having a huge problems with getting the game to play in an acceptable manner. I seem to be suffering from very poor frame rates and the being very choppy when rotating around a system. The decals in the sytem view (e.g. the planets and nebula) also look as if there going in super slow motion. Ive tryed all the usual stuff like playing around with resolutions and colour depth . Made sure I have the latest drivers and game patchs and even resorted to doing chipset and bios updates all to no effect. Ive played around with my nvida settings and crated a custom profile but no matter what mode of AA/AF (even when turned off compleatly) i still get very poor performance. Whats doubley annoying is that the game seems to start off ok but when i get about 50 turns in I start to encounter the problems. If you guys have any suggestions or tips I could try would greatful because im really liking the game and would like to actualy finish one with a decent FPS. Thx in advance.

System spec :

AMD X2 4800
Asus AN8-SLi
2 x Nvidia 7950 GX2
2 Gb ram
2 Raptor HDD on a raid
AC97 onborde soundcard

Memory Leak

Submitted by Rilbur on Fri, 2006-12-08 23:30.

There is a suspected memory leak in the game that might be the issue.

Memory leak

Submitted by crward on Sat, 2006-12-09 02:02.

I noticed that I was getting white screen flashes pretty bad after leaving the load menu up on my computer for 15-20 minutes. Closing and re-loading helped. The leak seems like it's endemic to the whole program, from entry screenn through, if that's any help for the diagnostics.

Some people have had

Submitted by cordas on Sat, 2006-12-09 03:50.

Some people have had problems because of how their Nvidia card handles Anti-aliasing.

Quote:
Thanks for letting me know it was working okay for you with those new drivers. I did some trouble-shooting, and found out that if I set anti-aliasing to "application controlled," then the game is okay and won't crash. I had had anti-aliasing set to a manual level, and I guess that's what caused the BLUE SCREEN, however this problem did not happen with older versions of the drivers--except with older versions of the drivers, I got those "flashes" every few second (which I don't have with the newest drivers).
