I really like the cruiser, battleship and and space base. Better set than any of those in game am gonna use it in my game for sure. Love the texturing 2, would you be interested in texturing my shipset? i have some pics at the bottom of lordhavocs thread "shipset progress 2"

New Ship Set

Very nice. The files need to be in a seperate sub-folder. Stored in the Empires folder with all the other races. Warning if you are using Kwoks mod you also need to put a copy in the Empires folder inside his mod folder.

New Ship set

I am still working on how to actually play with the race from the quick start menu. If you start a quick start game. They dont show in the list of playable races but if you start a game and look at the races involved they do turn up within the game so you could always switch to them. Also using new game you can design your own race and the ship set, flag and race picture are available for use.

Yes I can now pick them as a standard race from quick start. Just modify your settings text in the main data folder and also the one in the balance data folder to show the following.
Note the change in Number of quick start files from 14 to 15

This was the first shipset I remade for SEV from my original ones in SEIV. I hope I will have the energy to do the remaining 20-30 (I don't know exactly) in the same quality. Right now I plan to make some neutrals to make some logical balance in numbers.

Stream Read Error

I'm wondering if anyone has encountered any problems with the new ship set? In SE4 I unzipped the atrocities races and discovered they screwed up scoring. After deleting those extra SE4 races my scoring went back to normal. Just wondering if anyone has noticed any problems with the new ship set skewing scoring.

Resolving stream error

The map editor in SE:IV wasn't added in until v1.35 - so perhaps in the New Year for SE:V.

Try re-saving all the .bmp files in the Ngrath empire folder with another graphic program other than MS Paint (ie Ifran, Photoshop etc). There is an error that comes up from time to time with incorrect headers on the .bmp files.

Sorry for the missing carrier .x, I'll post the fixed version of the set as soon as I can (tomorrow). All bitmaps should be 24-bit OS/2 format BMP-s, otherwise it can cause Stream Read Errors. Perhaps I forgot converting the troop texture after texturing was finished (3DSMax does't recognize OS/2). Last week was the deadline, so I was in a hurry.

I do. N'Grath took three months with developing the creation method, two rounds of re-texturing, solving the problem of the quickly sizing the meshes and writing a slot modder program, so the next race will be out in 1.5 months if I don't exhaust and fall unconscious from my new job, but I can't guarantee anything. I got a sketch of an insectoid looking race, a concept of chitinous turtle-ships, and a name in mind (Shoronn or Xoronn) but all these can change in the meantime.

I tried to design a shipet myself (see this link http://www.spaceempires5.com/fr/node/1520 for details). An insectoid shipset btw.

This is really tiiiiime consuming. Designing meshes (with Wings 3D) is a lot of fun. But finding the right coordinates to place the firing points / engine exhaust points are a real pain in the …neck. Not to mention texturing : For some unknown reason my textures does not show up in the game. So I gave up (I don’t have enough free time). So I can easily understand you’ll take your time to relax after all this hard work.

In 3DSmax I used an

In 3DSmax I used an OmniLight object as a reference to define the FP/EP coordinates, and I wrote notes with the XYZ data. I think every 3D programs have a conventional coordinate system, so it shouldn't be a real problem. A mesh with all the additional work can take 3-6 hours, it requires a fixed amount of worktime, however the result is worth the effort.

And as promised, I got the missing .x file so the (hopefully ultimate) fixed version can appear on SENet anytime...

Coordinates

Well, actually the problem comes from the fact that most of the time we have to change the scale of the object in order it fits into the game, furthermore the meshes do not always face the right direction.

Therefore once the needed changes are made the original coordinates are often completely scrambled. So taking notes is definitely a good advice.

Another solution is to open the .X file (with the notepad) and take a look at the various coordinates displayed in the text and try to guess which are the good ones, which is no fun at all.

A functional/user friendly shipset viewer would really help in this matter.

I solved the scaling problem

I solved the scaling problem by batch converting the entire Terran shipset's .x files into .3ds, which is basically importable in 3DSMax. After importing, I scaled my object to fit to the imported one in size (and flipped it upside down), then exported it with Panda, made the FP/EP notes, and used the original Terran scaling values. You see, cheating makes things easier...

To Fyron: No, I didn't release my SEIV shipsets, but will post some (the better ones) to you if you need standard ones.

BTW I got a finished race portrait of the Xoronn at SENet, in the "Artwork!" topic. I'll launch a thread for this new race as soon as the project reaches at least 50% completion.
