Zooming out in combat

Submitted by falcore19 on Thu, 2006-12-07 17:00. Space Empires V General

I think it would be more fun to be able to zoom out more in combat. Often, I can barely see what's going on because the screen is too small. You can't command very effectively in that case, and you miss some action.

I'm aware that zooming out takes more CPU power, but it could just be an option for people with fast computers.

Another combat view item

Submitted by Gusset on Thu, 2006-12-07 18:42.

Another combat issue I would like to see addressed is the ability to remove the background stars. They make it hard to distinguish smaller ships, especially when trying to place units (simulator and sector view). You can do this on the solar system view, though I have to admit that I don't remember how.

If this is already possible, I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me how to do it.

Max Zoom Out Distance

Submitted by Thy Reaper on Thu, 2006-12-07 18:52.

Open Settings.txt in the Data folder.
About halfway down, there is a block about space and ground combat.

Change:
Space Combat Maximum Zoom Out Distance := 90.0
and
Ground Combat Maximum Zoom Out Distance := 40.0
to whatever you prefer. I think ~150 would be a good distance.

I don't see anything about the background, though.

On the Empire Options (Shift + O), on the System Display radio button page, there is an item titled "Show Space Background" which turns it off for the solar system display. I haven't found a way to do this for combat, though I am in full agreement that it'd b useful, especially with fighters being so powerful.

iirc, in a chat log the developer said when he is done fixing major bugs he wants to give more options for changing the view during combat.
