SE5 tutorial help.

Submitted by Intepid on Tue, 2006-09-26 20:45. Space Empires V General

I have been running the tutorial for SE V and every time I get to page 19/51, the expenditures details window shows 1600 minerals expended for ship maintenance. The chatch is the the tutorial window says it should be 1200 minerals.
Have I done something wrong, or is the tutorial in error?
I've been playing games long enough to know if you can't get the tutorial right, you don't have any chance in the game.
Thanks.

ive never really taken the

Submitted by dwiebe18 on Tue, 2006-09-26 20:56.

ive never really taken the tutorial seriously, I mainly use the tutorial in a gmae to learn the basics of the UI, from there I like to figure things out on my own. the UI for space empires can be confusing if you are just getting into the game, there is alot to absorb. I say use the tutorial to learn whats where as far as the queues and command buttons are, and then learn to play the game how you like to. as far as the tutorial being in error i wouldnt know I havent gone through it.

it is ultimately up to you. if the tutorial in SEV is confusing, try giving the SE III demo a run alot of the commands have translated into the newer games over the years. of course there are differences.

The SEV tutorial is lifted

Submitted by Faithful on Wed, 2006-09-27 07:03.

The SEV tutorial is lifted directly from SEIV. So, my guess would be there would likely be some glitches that were held over form SEIV.

They really should have made a much better and more accessible tutorial than what they have given people.

It is nothing more than reading a lot of small text in a much too small window.

Slightly buggy

Submitted by ckotchey on Wed, 2006-09-27 09:38.

I ran all the way through the tutorial last night, and found some issues in it myself.
Obviously, some of the numbers the tutorial explained to me were wrong, because, for example, I had added a few additional features to the Explorer I designed, so I expected such differences.
But there was a point after it had me move my ship through a warp point, and all went wrong because I think I had moved through the wrong warp point (???) and it started saying "see that new planet?" and there were no planets (I was in the black hole system).
But even so, I could finish through the tutorial and understand what it was describing.

My own personal complaint/request concerning the tutorial is that there should be MANY tutorial scenarios to go through. The first time I played SEIV in earnest, I had to play it about a dozen times by myself, each time focussing on a different aspect of the game, because each time I had to try to teach myself "what are boarding parties? How do they work", "what are satellites? how do they work", "what are troops", "what are fighters", "what are drones, and how are they different than fighters or ships?", etc.... There were so many different aspects of the game, I had to play multiple times, focusing on different aspects, just to learn on my own.
There should/could be a good dozen mini tutorial scenarios to teach all these aspects.

The SEV Tutorial

Submitted by StarHunter5 on Sat, 2006-09-30 01:21.

I took a few turns at the tutorial and then just started my own game.
I have played SE4 Deluxe alot so I just tried to learn the differences and then just started experimenting and learning SEV.

I agree, an expanded

I agree, an expanded tutorial should be part of a much needed printed strategy guide. or at lest a lengthy Pdf one.

The tutorial is next to useless

Submitted by Rik81 on Thu, 2006-10-26 19:05.

as is the manual, IMHO. What I expect in a tutorial (and in at least part of the manual) is a HOW TO DO things guide. We get a lot of "what this is" and in the tutorial we get some of "what you see when you punch this button" but the tutorial doesn't go near far enough. As an earlier suggestion here, I would like to see a series of tutorial "scenarios" covering a lot more of HOW to do things, starting with the BASICS.
