Planetary Population

Anyone else think the total population a planet can hold is way to low? This can easily be changed, but I would like feedback on what you all believe a realistic total population on a planet should be.

Here's the stock data

Tiny - 500 Million
Small - 1 Billion
Medium - 2 Billion
Large - 4 Billion
Huge - 8 Billion

Ring - 32 Billion
Sphere - 64 Billion

Earth is currently at 6.5 Billion. I don't know about you, but Earth is not between Large & Huge in size. Sticking out tongue

I realize some might see this as no big deal, but to each his/her own. Sticking out tongue

It could be argued that this

Submitted by cordas on Wed, 2006-12-06 13:24.

It could be argued that this being done from a realistic level of population that a planet can support with everyone getting a fair share of the resources (but that is the marxist bit of me speaking). Earth is way over populated at the moment and this is already causing problems for our enviroment and is soon going to cause far greater socail problems off the back of those problems unless we start to fix things.

As for Increasing the numbers I see no real problems in that, afterall they are fairly arbitary, I would increase Ring and Sphere hugely.

Just be aware that if you increase populations this will have an effect on the population bonuses you gain, so its worth checking those and making sure they have the effects you want.

If you fancy playing about with the game mechanics a bit you could also start making that having larger populations start to make people unhapy, and possibly damage conditions and resources on the planet.

I'm going to rework this

Submitted by Thy Reaper on Wed, 2006-12-06 15:11.

Now that I think of it, those numbers are quite low. But in my own defense, I did always consider the Huge/Ring/Sphere worlds as horribly underpopulated.

In any case, the mod I am going to make will rework all of the values to more closely match what we see on our own world. Population modifiers will also be changed, etc. I'm also going to make the two artificial planets far more powerful. But I'm waiting for AI documentation and more bug fixes before I begin the bulk of my mod.

The Earth is not overpopulated. I suspect that, with the technology of 2400, we would be able to support in excess of 10 Billion people. Imagine us trying to support 6.5 Billion people in the 1600s, when medical and food technologies were far more deficient than today.
