Simple AI Question, in hope of a challenging game!

Submitted by Syntax on Tue, 2006-12-05 16:15. Space Empires V General

Hello everyone, long time Space Empires player, finally dug into SEV. Trying to make it interesting, i'm attempting to create empire files so that I can strategically place AI empires in a map i've generated. Here's the kicker, if start a game, save the computer AI Empires in the Empire folder when I load them into a new game as AI and change JUST their planets WILL the AI empire then STILL use the AI files that they are supposed to? Or will they simply revert to generic ai files?

Just to make things clear here's what i did:

1: Generate A Large Cluster map, survey all systems.
2: Determine the best clusters, starting points, atmospheres for empires - most of which DO not match the standard starting types/atmospheres.
3: Started a game, entered passwords, took over AI empires and saved each empire file.
4: Load up map I previosuly generated, set up the AI empires, changed planet types and atmosphere to make for a difficult game.
5: Start Game

So which empire AI files will these empires use?

Thx in advance!

Okay I am a bit tired so

Okay I am a bit tired so excuse me if I am not understanding correctly.

Are you talking about the planet types the AI empires start with, ice - oxygen for instance, in the Terran_AI_General.txt. Say for instance changing their planet types to gas giant or some such.

If so the answer is SEV is different to SEIV, it took me 3 hours when I began (laugh if you want to Sticking out tongue) to realise this. If you create your own empire it will use the default AI and not any changes you make to the race directory or AI_Script files.

The only way to get anything custom in the game is to let the game put the AI empire in for you. You can force your own exact setup by going to settings and altering the number of empires min and max values for low, medium and high empire numbers. Set min and max to 6 for instance to force 6 players, then go into your race directory and take out all but the 6 empire folders you require in your game.

Damn :S Certainly things are

Damn :S Certainly things are a lot more difficult in SEV thus far. I though of doing that but then I'd have to leave it up to random chance to get the AI empires in the right posistion at start up, which means I could theoritically be doing that for days or hours.

Any way to get the AI's placed and then change their planet and atmosphere types?

Slightly more complicated due to the massively increased options are our disposal, a hundred fold increase in the amount of customising we can do Smiling

I would imagine a scenario though I have no idea where to start with that as all i've done has been with the AI. I just took a peek at the tutorial scenario myself though; I would guess and it would be a guess, that you might put in custom files to the scenario's folder by the same name of the scenario and it might use them or you might edit the scenario settings file for your own custom one.

Other than that it would be a save game edit.

Someone else might have more input because its not an area i've looked at much.

Its a pity you didn't want to do it the other way around (and make it easier for them) because then all you'd need to do is give them access to all colony tech's.
