Beating the AI easily |
Does the AI get good later in the game?
I'm asking because I mauled through dozens of planets and hundreds of ships simply by making my ships equipped with long range missiles. One of my ships could destroy 10 of its ships, because my attack range is twice theirs, and they never get to me. I just had to pack some ordinances and that was it. It had no armor, and everything else was at level 1.
They didn't build point defense, they didn't build weapon platforms, so I killed their home worlds with basic level 5 capital missiles. I just quit after beating 2 races, because I knew it was over, I had 100k research point and the others had around 10k.
Rilbur makes a good point:
Rilbur makes a good point: the Kwok Balance mod does a good job at making the A/I feistier early-game: it will build weapons platforms, ground troups, and Point defense on its frigates.
(and it seems pretty aggressive in the game I've been playing -- I set up a 5 player hotseat solitaire game to warm up for a multiplayer game via Play by Web, small galaxy, 11 AI players. Lots of combat, and the A/I's being much less of a speed-bump than I thought it would be. The Abbidon and Phong A/I players have been handing out alliances to PC factions left and right -- It'll be a while and some concentrated thought before I can figure out which of my five players is on which side.)

I can also recommend Kwok's
I can also recommend Kwok's balance mod for good change of pace; If you'd like I could do with someone to test my AI's in a few days if you are willing, they are not at the balance mod standard yet but i'm working on it.

Yep and to be released soon.
Thank you
Their more or less their getting there
The Tarsus AI A heavy research, diplomatic, peaceful AI, should be in an alpha form either by the end of the week or the start of next week; so i'll advertise for testers then. Its score is a good distance ahead of the standard AI (200%+ ahead) but there is still a lot of room for improvement against a player.
The Rimworld AI, which is more neutral and defensive than Tarsus, is still in development and will take a bit longer, its mostly just a copy of the Tarsus at present with some tweaks.
The Valexi AI, an intel heavy AI I am working on, i've only just started developing. When I heard about people struggling against Intel heavy opponents and I looked at the Intel scripting, I thought about a different kind of opponent one who focuses on massive intelligence pts to steal tech and sabotage opponents. It should beat most AI's in their weaker spot, even if they are traditionally stronger
After I get one or two to alpha I might turn Tarsus into an extremely aggressive AI, for which attacking is the priority and everything else is second place.
So yeah they are getting there but there is much to do yet, so many options for different kinds of AI's its a heck of a lot of fun building them.
