Display Bugs

Submitted by tmcc on Tue, 2006-09-26 14:27. Space Empires V General

I have encountered 2 display bugs, one of which I have heard of previously. 1) As the game progresses more and more of the sub menus become garbled with colored horizontal lines. This is fixed by running in safe mode. 2) In safe mode the screen continually flashes about every second, sometimes more sometimes less. It is really driving me nuts!

Change the primary display

Submitted by Santiago on Tue, 2006-09-26 18:35.

Change the primary display driver to the actual one listed. In Setup. This got rid of the flashing for me, but the screen size is slightly smaller and cuts off some of the game screen, a very small amount, but no more flashing. I only had one choice as I am playing on an ultra portable laptop with a 10" screen for travel. It may work better on a larger monitor/desktop system.

Display

That works for the flashing but the cut off screen is miserable to play with. You can't even scroll down with the mouse to zoom out of the main display and have to use the keyboard instead. I have never encountered this type of behavior with any other game.

Same here. I have not had these issues at all. What card are you running, and are your drivers up to date?

Graphics Card

Submitted by tmcc on Wed, 2006-09-27 09:24.

I'm using an IBM Thinkpad X30 with an Intel 82830M Graphics Controller built into the motherboard. I know it is sub par, but it worked with no issues on Starfury, which I thought was the basis for the SEV engine. In fact I have never had a problem in the past at all.

Video card issue idea...

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Wed, 2006-09-27 09:28.

This brings up a good point though... we should create a thread for players to post their video card and if they are having issues so we can see if there is a pattern.

I created a Troubleshooting thread.

Submitted by dwiebe18 on Wed, 2006-09-27 09:52.

I created a thread in Tech support for this purpose.

It was proposed by Captain Kwok that we should create a thread specifically for posting our graphics hardware and wether or not we are having problems, as well as the nature of those problems.

I for example, am running:

PCI Express eGeForce 6600LE 256MB
AMD Athalon 64 3200+
1 GIG of Ram

and I am having no problems.

If you do not know how to find out what type of graphics card you have, there are a few ways you can find out.

On your desktop:

Right Click ===> Properties ===> Settings ===> Advanced ===> Adapter ===> under Adapter Type, and Adapter information it should list the name and capabilities of your graphics card.

if you want to go a little further Click Properties ===> Driver. You should have a page with details that include the current driver version you are using with your card.

Here is a link to download a program that will give you complete and in depth information about your entire system.

If you are having problems please list them and describe them in as much detail as you can, so the rest of us are in a better position to offer suggestions.

Now we can try to help people who post their information.

White Flash on Screen

Submitted by StarHunter5 on Sat, 2006-09-30 01:06.

I was wondering if anyone else had noticed the screen flashing. It does not seem to interfere with the play of the game so I have been just ignoring it.
I have no idea what is causing this or how to correct it.

My System is an 800 megahertz Intel Celeron running
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
with
Intel(R) 82810 Graphics Controller (Microsoft Corporation)
using 16-bit color
