SW Shipset Teasers

Noble713's picture
Submitted by Noble713 on Wed, 2006-11-29 22:43. SE:V MODs

Here are some screenshots I took of my WIP Star Wars shipsets. Almost all of the models and textures are by EvilleJedi of SW: Warlords fame. Only about half will be included in the "stock" Imperial shipset, which is almost finished except for drone, mine, satellite, and weapon platform meshes/images. The others are for the SW mod (don't expect a release anytime soon).

All ships are properly to scale. The eventual inclusion of the Death Star, Executor, Eclipse, Sovereign, Mediator, Lucre Hulk, World Devastator, and Home One may screw things up. I'll probably have a reduced "super-capital" scaling for them for practicality reasons. I'm making all-new models for the Executor and Sovereign as Eville's are simply too many polys (10,000-ish).

All of the images are LARGE, so if you have a slow connection beware...

pic 1: All the ships I currently have working. From left to right, top to bottom: Imperator Star Destroyer, Victory Star Destroyer, Acclamator Assault Ship, Venator Star Destroyer, Battle Horn Bulk Cruiser, Dreadnaught Heavy Cruiser, CR90 Corellian Corvette, Assassin Corvette, Corellian Gunship, CR20 Transport (colony ship), Lancer Frigate, Marauder Corvette, Nebulon B Frigate, KDY Escort Carrier. It appears I left out the Taskforce Cruiser. I've also converted a space platform and the Golan battlestations but didn't take shots of those either.

pic 2: just a closer view of the smaller vessels.

pic 3: Imperial walkers spotted on the North Ridge!

Cool. Another SW set too...

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Wed, 2006-11-29 23:47.

Nice work.

There is another Star Wars set also in progress over at SpaceEmpires.net by albi_joe - it's based on Atrocities SE:IV Empire set, which contains a few original creations as well as the traditional ships.

Yes, I don’t think the ship models can be animated in SE-V, however a non rotating model could look fine anyway.

earthforce ships

Submitted by evilginger on Thu, 2006-11-30 13:01.

Being a bit of a B5 Fan I seem to recall that the rotating bits on earth force ships didn’t rotate in combat which would be exactly when you would see the models close up in SEV I think the things locked down for combat. The station was an exception but that was huge. I would also love some one to do a set of ships as I like the design

How much time is involved

How much time is involved making graphics like this? do you start from scratch or do you start with a scavanged image? what software do you use?

I don't have teh DVDs... yet... but I'm quite certain they did rotate even in combat.

Some specific classes didn't rotate period, presumably because they had been equiped with artificial gravity (the "shadow" omega destroyers where clark mixed shadow tech with EA tech is probably what you're thinking about) or simply were to small to have it.

When available: Ehhhh,

Submitted by Noble713 on Fri, 2006-12-01 03:26.

When available: Ehhhh, probably January. I've been planning to model the Imperial Weapon Platform after the Prefabricated Garrison Base but for the rest of the month I will be either too busy or away from my computer. That's the biggest holdup.

Most of the fighters are also modelled, but since the 3d fighters only show up in ground combat I haven't made converting them a high priority.

Most of the work has already been done for me. I downloaded EvilleJedi's ships from his website. They are in .obj format. I import the models and textures into 3D Studio Max 6, remove any excess details, take all the necessary portrait snapshots, and export them to .x format. I also change the textures from 1024^2 PSDs to 512^2 JPEGs in Paint Shop Pro. If the ship is fairly low-poly and needs no work I can probably go from the .obj file to a working SE5 ship in under two hours (i.e. unique portraits and inventory layout + properly aligned engine glows). SJ's Slot Modder is a Godsend.

Totally remodelling some of the high-poly ships might take 3-5 hours (I'm not very good with 3DS Max so my "workflow" is very poor) but is worth the time. I cut the Dreadnaught down from ~1300 to ~500, I think.
