Modding ship engine upgrade pathway

Rilo57's picture
Submitted by Rilo57 on Wed, 2006-11-29 12:53. SE:V MODs

Does anyone have an idea how to mod ship engine upgrade pathways, so that when you upgrade your ships you don't have to pull all the old engines off and put the new ones on.

One idea I had was to make the whole engine upgrade tree one path, with a formula to increase all the engine characteristics with research.

Would it be possible to increase movement points by formula?
how about combat movement points?

Any other ideas?

There's no longer a way to upgrade items that are separate entries in the data files.

It's easy enough to increase combat or movement points with each level. Just use the [%Level%] variable in the ability amount with a formula of some sort.

Submitted by Rilo57 on Wed, 2006-11-29 15:19.

I've tried to modify the vaulue with 1 + ([%Level%]*1/5) and it doesn't seem to increase the movement. Is it a problem having a fraction instead of a decimal. or something else.

Also why is there a separate bonus movement and regular movement?

I forgot SEV likes spaces

Submitted by Rilo57 on Wed, 2006-11-29 15:26.

I forgot SEV likes spaces around + * - ... My multiplier had no spaces. I wonder then, maybe the program wouldn't like a fraction? Now when you look at the component report it says at level 7 you produce 1 standard movement and 2.4 bonus movements.

How will partial whole numbers effect speed, does that just translate into the real time combat as a fractinal increase in speed?

it depend

on engine per move value

check the way which is in BM

in stock every ship use 1 engine = movement point

BM expand that each ship have total movement points from engines that is divided by the engines per move values

the bonus is added after that calculation

Speeds truncated...

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Wed, 2006-11-29 15:27.

In most cases the number is truncated, so it will just consider the first digit. This is true for movement amounts.

Does anyone know if there is

Submitted by Rilo57 on Wed, 2006-11-29 15:28.

Does anyone know if there is a round down feature? or is there some fancy math function that will only give whole numbers but take 5 levels to increase movement by 1.

Incremental Amounts

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Wed, 2006-11-29 15:38.

Just add 0.2 pts per level. It will always round down until it reaches the next whole number.

The Round feature in Equations.

Submitted by Rilo57 on Wed, 2006-11-29 16:21.

It wasn't rounding down, it was showing the decimal at level 7 it was 2.4 bounus movement points...

I found a round feature use it like this round( 1 + ([%Level%] * .2)) and it will force round your equation. This round feature could be used in a lot of other areas.

trunc or round

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Wed, 2006-11-29 16:29.

I was referring to the actual movement amount for the ship though... but there is a round function as well as a trunc function that can do what you want for the ability descriptions.
