I just can't contain myself

Submitted by eddieballgame on Tue, 2006-11-28 03:06. Space Empires V General

As I explore all the wonderful "bells & whistles" in this program, I must say this game is a dream come true! So many features & so much depth. Graphics are clean yet excellent & one does not need a super machine to run it. My laptop is more than enough. I would call this SEIV x 10. In fact I was amazed at how few "bugs" it had "out of the box" compared to most.
There is no doubt that Aaron & company have created a gem. With the support of the SEIV gang, Captain Kwok, Imperator Fyron, Devnullicus, Gervais, Geoschmo, Atrocities, & so many more I have no doubt this game will rule the 4X genre for a long time.
Give thanks, fellow gamers, we are the lucky ones. Appreciate all the hard work that has been done, for it will only get better! Smiling

Are you a Strategy First shareholder ? Laughing out loud

Just kidding, I mostly agree with you. Although there are some bugs left and we’re still missing a good competitive AI.

No, but the owner of a lot of boring programs :); I am an optimist, with a lot of faith in these guys.

I love to see this sort of enthusiasm Smiling. With the quirks aside I love this game, I have been playing Malfador's SE series since II so I am a little biased, but this version brings things I have been hoping to see for years.

I Agree With Eddie

Submitted by Cosmic Marvel on Tue, 2006-11-28 12:50.

I agree with Eddie - I really like this game.

Yes, it still has a few hic-ups but the major bugs appear to have been patched and mostly what's left is just a matter of sweeping up the dust.

Unlike many of you, this is my first venture into the world of Space Empires and I've truly enjoyed it. (And no, I'm not a stockholder either.) Eye-wink

I just love the way you can

Submitted by ShunterAlhena on Tue, 2006-11-28 13:15.

I just love the way you can do pretty much anything you see in your favourite scifi movie/book. SEIV was good, but SEV's customizable treaties and especially the alliance chambers are a dream come true for me, to borrow a page from the OP's book. I've been looking for a feature like this since I began fiddling around with 4X games, but nothing came even close (or those that did, like CivIV, have the style of a 12-year-old kiddie's humor. Can't figure why anyone in his right mind would put cartoon figures and silly stupid text into a game this serious - and don't even offer an alternative for those not interested in childish jokes.)
I hope that the few remaining bugs will be swept but this is completely playable for me, especially w/ Balance Mod.

Agreed

Submitted by redbullbear68 on Tue, 2006-11-28 14:24.

Agreed,

I got into SEIV via a friend about a year ago and I was hooked. The SEV version is spectacular and I am enthralled by the combat graphics. I love to watch it a x1/8 speed in close up. It feels like a Bab5 episode.

I agree that it's a great game with even greater potential but your "I would call this SEIV x 10. In fact I was amazed at how few "bugs" it had "out of the box" compared to most. " statement makes me question your sincerity .

I demand the Doctor Device! I DEMAND IT! (Molecular Disintegrator, IIRC).

youre lucky

Submitted by putty on Wed, 2006-11-29 03:45.

i do agree SEV is an excellent game. but i was very dissapointed with its "out of the box" condition. i put 40 hours or so into game after game only to get a game crashing bug. with the v1.17 patch thats all gone away. so yes...now its a great game...out of the box...a joke.

I see the potential this

Submitted by vorius on Wed, 2006-11-29 08:35.

I see the potential this game has. It has the kind of attention to detail I truly appreciate but so much of the functionality is just broken or poorly implemented. It's alot better than the way the game MAster of Orion 3 was released and it's certainly got a hell of a lot more attention by the devs post release so I'm optimistic about it's future. But I put the game away for now waiting for it to be playable.

My whole point of my post

Submitted by eddieballgame on Wed, 2006-11-29 14:17.

My whole point of my post was in part to "vent" against all the negative diatribe as well as to profess my sincere glee over this program. There are very few programs that are "completed out of the box", & that is a shame. Be appreciative of the very quick responses from the devs, most unfinished products get less attention than this one has. I had a few "bugs", so what, my son is in Kuwait.

I've been playing the SE

Submitted by TheStuff07 on Wed, 2006-11-29 23:12.

I've been playing the SE series since I found the shareware version of SE2 on a CD full of other shareware games around 8 years ago("1000+ Great Games" CD from ValuSoft). Right before SE4 came out in 99 or 2000, I found out that SE3 was out. Oh, boy, was I happy! lol. I was hooked on that for the longest time, because my computer couldn't run SE4. In 2002, I got a new computer and SE4 and have been hooked on that since, and been waiting for SE5. When SE5 finally came out, I was really excited to get the new game, but it's "out of the box" condition wasn't that bad for me. I never had any game-crashing bugs, but there certainly were some limitations before the first patch. Now, 2 patches later, the game is in pretty good condition. I have run into a couple bugs since then, but apparently they're all system-related. Stupid video card. lol. Brand new, too, but obviously they need to work on better drivers when they put cards out. Anyway, SE5 is great, NOW, as well as the whole series has been for several years.
