'Fire on and Destroy' useless? (1.17)

Submitted by Greebo on Sun, 2006-11-26 07:48. Space Empires V General

Am I doing something wrong?

I've got an obsolete ship that's damaged to the point that it can not move. I have another ship in the same sector. I select the ship thats damaged and choose the Fire On and Destroy order, and its order list says "Await fire and destroy".

My other ship, with no orders, is doing nothing. I tried moving in and out of the sector, attacking the sector, and a variety of other ways, but I can't get my healthy cruiser to destroy my defunct transport.

Am I doing something wrong or is this function not working?

you could select the damaged

you could select the damaged ship and disband it or you could put a repair module on a ship and move it to the damaged ship, so it can be fixed and move again. I think the fire option is only for firing on enemy ships.

Clear its orders first

Submitted by Thy Reaper on Sun, 2006-11-26 08:56.

I'm pretty sure you have to clear the ship's orders before the fire-on command works. And if that doesn't work, than being fired-on may require movement, which would make this a bug.

Fire-on isn't only for enemy ships.

Then I think its a movement

Then I think its a movement bug. The damaged ship has 0 movement available, and I made sure its orders and the orders of the ship to do the destroying were both cleared before marking the damaged ship to be fired upon.

I'll go ahead and report it.

maybe I'm missing something

maybe I'm missing something here. Why use supplies to shoot your own ship when you can scrap it? If it's in your own system you will even get resources for doing so, right?

You have to be over a

You have to be over a shipyard to scrap....

If your stranded in space away from a ship yard your only options are to send a repair vessel, self-destruct (which requires a self-destruct device), or blow it up with one of your other ships.

Wait the end of turn

Submitted by Helker on Sun, 2006-11-26 14:20.

Did you wait the next turn?

When I use that command it is executed at the end of turn (So the ship will actually be destroyed the next turn)

It's a bug alright

Submitted by Shrike on Sun, 2006-11-26 14:43.

Same problem. Annoying, as these derelicts keep eating resources even though they've become useless and you can't fire on them. Now we have to go through a lot of trouble to lure an enemy towards these ships Smiling

Yah, I waited...and waited...

Several times. Even left it sit there undisturbed. I definitely think its a 0 movement bug. The ship to be destroyed has no move, so it can't execute the command.
