AI in SE4?

I was just wondering how the AI is in SE4? The AI in SE5 just is about exciting as watching grass grow and the balance mod makes the game a little too "slow" for my tastes. I was wondering if SE4 provides a bigger challenge.

The stock AI in SE:IV is better than the current stock AI, and I'm sure there are plenty of mods that make it even better. In SE:IV, the AI tends to expand much faster than me, and it has much larger fleets. Though I was always one of the researchers, so I tend to have just a few, small tech'd-up fleets.

Two AI mods for SE IV

The TDM-ModPack is highly recommended for improving the AI in SE IV.

Another AI mod is AI Campaign (AIC), but I haven't played that.

Star Trek mod for SE IV

I played recently SE IV (in anticipation of SE V) using the star trek mod.

Might i note that while the borg didnt pose much of a threat..... the domionion reall ygave me a run for my money. The only way i could survive a confruntation with them is trough ship capture and analyzing components.

So yes..... the AI in SE IV (at least using the star trek mod) is pretty damn good!

Whick reminds me.... anybody plannign any star trek mods for se V ? With its new combat module this would be sweeeet !
