[1.17] drone total damage |
what is total damage done by drone + warhead mounted on it ?
On the subject of drone
On the subject of drone damage in general, I notice that as of 1.17, a new bug with drones seems to have been created: Now drones *ALWAYS* die when they run into something, even when they shouldn't! A drone with over 4000 shielding (and no warhead, who really needs one?) colliding with a crappy scow of less than 1000 HP total dies anyway? Considering that the drones cost more to make than the things they run into and instantly die from, this kinda makes them worthless.
On the same subject, warheads are useless. A max-tech warhead does less damage than its equivalent tonnage in armor or shielding when smacking into an enemy.
A drone, or anything, tends to inflict as much as its warhead is worth, plus whatever its hull and shield value is.
Not necessarily
its like 2 car crash - in most cases both cars wont be able to move. Remember 2 things will dealt to themselve proportional damage to their mass and weight
They deal damage in proportion to their mass and weight, sure, but their ability to *SURVIVE* that damage is not equivalent. The drone in question should simply punch through that ship like a bullet through a rotten log. When this happens in real life, bits of rotten log fly everywhere while the bullet continues on to hit whoever watched too many movies and decided rotten logs provided effective cover against bullets.
In any case, the minimum cost of producing the drone easily exceeds the cost of the target, making it a somewhat useless effort when drones become very nonreusable and capable of killing a single target only.

Are drones useful ?
Maybe I’m missing something, but personally I never considered drones useful. Fighters are a lot more efficient.

Not anymore!
In contrast, drones (if they didn't instantly die when impacting unworthy prey now) can use fullsize shielding, enabling them to potentially withstand thousands of points of damage, and that shielding translates into additional pain when they smack into enemies. Or in the old days of reusable drones, hover around stinging with their weapons for awhile and abuse their massive +eva bonus.
Now they just splat into crappy frigates and die, making them useless considering they cost more than the frigate did.
Drones can traverse warp points
Fighters cannot do that. In that regard, I find them exceptionally useful.

Drones
Oh, I see. They are useful for reconnaissance and skirmishes. In a certain way the fill the “niche” of small escort ships (sloops, corvettes, patrol boats, etc…).

Can drones get more than 1
Can drones get more than 1 move per turn? Last time I launched a drone into space on the strategic, it moved at a pathetic 1 move a turn, thus ending my dreams of using drones as scout craft. Was this just a random glitch caused by some other factor, or is it still true?

Engines? Supplies?
May sound like a stupid question, but did you but engines or supply storage on it?

Give me atmopshperic manipulation cannons, or give me death!
Launch time
Drones and fighters get one strategic movement point on the first turn, and full thereafter.
Unit Moves
You'd be surprised
About half the time when someone asks that question the answer is "..no, why? Is that important?"

Ramming
I don't know if its been changed since SEIV, but in SEIV a ship would drop its shields and use only its armor/hull to ram (target's shields would still apply though).

die
Well.. shouldn't it die??? I thought drones exploded upon impact?
