Suggestion : Sorting the components list. |
I wonder why it's not in game yet. I mean, when you get far in game, the component list can become a real mess, wich make designing ships quite painful. I lost count how much time i wasted trying to find a particular element in the list and not finding it... Something like putting next to each others similar components like engines, beam weapons, storage, basic ship components like bridge, crew quarters, life support would really help. Or some filter to only see what we need. As it is now, it's a real mess and it takes a long time to scroll up and down to find something...

This is a bloody pain, half
This is a bloody pain, half the betas nearly pulled a strike because of the alpha sort, so Aaron put an "Sort Components by name" check box under Empire Options -> Display. (Scroll down)
Unfortunaly some people actualy (a very small minority) *like* the alpha sort, so Aaron left it as defult to ON in stock. you can turn the defult OFF in the settings.txt, though every time you upgrade SEV you will have to edit it again.
Of course Balance Mod has alpha sort OFF as default.

beacuse aaron is stubborn and tends to listen to the loud minority groups (since they make more noise than the large majority groups who are happy "the way it was in se4")

hmmmm
How do you listen to the quiet / silent majortiy, If you want your views to be heard then make them known. If you like things the way they are then say so.
Yeah
Lets tell aaron to add AREA OF EFFECT weapons to the game

Engine Limits
Thats why you can't "dodge" shots by jinking left and right, the shots home in and ignore movement. The hit/miss is calculated long before the shot actually hits, when its fired.
edit: I agree it should have been in the engine from the beginning, but now that its not the bugs are goign to get first... And what you're asking for is a lot harder than it sounds, depending on how the engine is written.

Old Components
As an aside to the components sort issue, there was an option in SE4 to see only latest components or not. That was very handy, as sometimes older components were preferred (cost less or take less time to build). I researched crew quarters 2 for example, and dont need it yet, but it's the only crew quarters I'm able to use. Is this option available in SE5? I can't seem to find it.
A related issue is the Weapons Report. How can I see older versions of a weapon displayed?
Thank you
Thank you Rilbur!
Instead of hijacking threads create an AE thread and be done with it.
As for the sorting of components, with the number of different games/empires I try out I really wish it would default the other way.
Nope

Actually you CAN dodge certain shots. Torpedoes, for example.

What?
O.o are you sure that isn't just shots that missed anyway?

Torpedos are seekers, and seekers don't miss. What happens is they have no turn rate, so of the target moves, they go whooshing on past.

Guess you can tell who never bothers with torpedoes, huh?
