Love the game, but going to wait a little bit...

Submitted by JakeCourtney on Tue, 2006-11-21 20:53. Space Empires V General

I really love the game, but now I think I'm going to wait a while before playing it again. The patch still didn't fix everything I wanted it too, but I know there will be more patches coming. I will defintely be playing this game again. Just not until things are more stable. I will give Space Empires this kind of leniency just because I know it has a low staff. The game is really great and I hope it will get up to its full potential. Hopefully I will be back with a couple of patches or two and maybe there might be greats mods out.

Oh come on...

Submitted by javaslinger on Tue, 2006-11-21 21:38.

There is absolutely nothing to complain about after patch 1.17. The only remaining bugs are trivial and if there are stability issues, then they are again clearly specfically PC related, not game related.

This email this guy wrote is clearly provocative and the only intent I can imagine would be to inspire someone like me to scream TROLL at him.

So, I obliged him....

Out of line...

IIRC Jake was interested more so in the Alliance features, which are buggy and only partially operational in v1.17. His post was perfectly legit and even optimistic in its tone. I agree with Phoenix, the troll label was completely out-of-line!

I'm also having huge issues

Submitted by aethe on Tue, 2006-11-21 21:50.

I'm also having huge issues with the alliance interface. After while when you attempt to vote on any alliance resolution it forces the entire game to crash.

My Issues

Submitted by JakeCourtney on Tue, 2006-11-21 23:17.

I'm not shooting down the game. In fact I said I would be back after a couple of patches. I just really like the Alliance part of the game and would like to wait until they are fixed so that I can enjoy the game more. In no way was my post negative toward the game. Does my line "The game is really great and I hope it will get up to its full potential." warrant myself being called a troll. I really do like this game, there is nothing else out there like it. I also know that if I wait these bugs that I hate so much will be fixed and I will definitely enjoy the game more.

The game will be made even better by people who devote their free time like Captain Kwok. I look forward to playing some of the excellent mods everyone will put out.

It's hard for me to put this game down, but I want to enjoy it to the maximum extent. To do this I fear I must wait a couple of patches more. I have faith that this game will be on the level that it was intended to be.

I will most likely continue to crawl the forums, even though I'm fairly new to the forums. I have not deviled into the game enough to really add much to comment. I just hope that the community here will make light of any bugs and report.

Oh, and I believe it's okay to complain just do it responsibly. I've also found it rather annoying on game forums when people constantly yell at each other for saying anything negative. If you feel someone is a troll don't feed them by yelling at them. Be kind or don't post anything at all.

Anyway, that was my two cents.

Trouble is

Submitted by evilginger on Wed, 2006-11-22 01:10.

There have been a bit of an invasion of trolls of late so forgive people for snapping at anything negative. I don’t think what you said was trolling to be honest it’s a fair point if the part of the game are particularly interested in still is not working. I am however it will be fixed shortly along with the multiplayer issues which seem to be the most significant outstanding problem areas

Reasons for waiting

Submitted by ckotchey on Wed, 2006-11-22 11:41.

I don't think it's a troll at all - I feel the same way, but I'm one farther step behind - I haven't bought it yet.
I keep watching and monitoring the progress of the game. I see now that the fixes coming out in the patches are decreasingly of the "the game freezes" or "the game crashes" variety and are focusing more on the "oops, it shouldn't be behaving this way" bugs. Along the way, I'm sure a lot of people are also waiting for the next phase of bugs - the "ugh, I hate the GUI" bugs (well, annoyances, really).
I started playing SEIV late in it's life, and the existence of PBW was an enormous selling point for me - a simple, easy way to setup and find multiplayer games while automating the whole submission/execution phase of the game. I'm keeping my eye out on that "modding" community too to see if somebody steps up and provides such a "feature".

Everyone has their own reasons to wait - whether it be bugs, features, the modding community, price, or what have you.

Posting that you are waiting is good.

Submitted by obliwobly on Wed, 2006-11-22 16:57.

People saying they are waiting is not trolling as it promises more people will buy the game later depending on the performance of the game after patching which gives an incentive to MMs patching and shows to Strategy First that patching is increasing sales, in case the publishers get fidgity. I dont doubt MM are proven patchers and that it comes naturally to them as it is the way they choose to work ever since they started.

As it happens I was saying exactly the same thing a week ago, but then I began making bug reports and then I got a reply from the devs telling me the bug I reported was fixed in the latest patch. So I realised that reporting on the demo is bound to be out of date, so if I want to join in with improving it then I have to have the full game to keep up with the patches which is kind of chicken and egg but it tipped the balance for me. Then I saw the offer for SE5 plus Starfury (full game as a download) from Strategy First, free postage and discount thrown in meant it was only £16.97 which I thought was a fair price so I bought it. Hopefully it will be possible to play the game with full tactics and no crashes by the time it arrives in the UK from Canada. Eye-wink Meanwhile I have Starfury to keep me busy which take some getting used to but at that price (free) its a real bargain.

Not true.

Not true, it's that the community has found a way to work around the CTD bug. At present, there is no evidence (at least posted) to suggest that the problems posed by using higher screen resolutions are specific to any particular manufacturer or model of video card.

I do believe though that collecting the screen resolution used that exhibits the problem vs. brand and model of video card installed, into a single thread would be a worthwhile effort in further defining the problem.
Sincerely,
Kahn
