A.I. Expansion

Submitted by Helker on Tue, 2006-11-21 19:07. Space Empires V General

I'm playing in a Large galaxy with 13 Empires controlled by the A.I.

I've colonized 32 planets, while Neutral Empires colonized 3-8 planets each, and the remaining Empires colonized 7-13 planets.

Is there a way to make the A.I. colonize more planets and expand more?

‹ Fleets won’t attack enemy planet with mines. Finally =) ›

I'm not installing the Balance Mod because it messes with the Tech Tree, which I like very much...

I believe that it is possible to make the same changes that the BM has without messing with the tech tree...

Then, how can I modify the settings to just make the A.I. expand more?

Why not PM the writer of the balance mod I would think he would oblige with some advice as to what he did with the AI. Its an idea I have been thinking about likly call it the AI mod

AI Expansion

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Tue, 2006-11-21 20:30.

There's a number of factors that hurt the AI's colonization speed. First, it takes them longer to move out into new systems because their explorer and survey ships aren't numerous enough and they don't work together as efficiently as a human player. They also don't built Resupply Depots on remote worlds nearly enough and often go for treaties that trap themselves in their already colonized systems.

If you modify settings.txt so that warp points are always visible, it might help a bit and giving them a low or better bonus should give them enough ships to do a little better in the initial territory grab.

---

The AI in the Balance Mod tends to get off to a quicker start because they will build BSYs to supplement their colony ship production, plus they are told to use more explorer and survey ships, so they tend to explorer systems and uncover new planets faster.

However at some point earlier than desired, the AI swaps states from Explore & Expand and more or less focuses on doing other things. Unfortunately it hasn't been as easy to kick them out of this transition. I'm still working on that among other things.

Thank you for that

Submitted by evilginger on Tue, 2006-11-21 21:05.

Just to say thank you for the above. I don’t really have time to brush the rust off my coding skills but I think just realising a mod with the AI fixes so far from the balance mod would help people who want to play stock but find the AI a bit feeble.

I suspect from what captain Kwock says that the AI works like me in the game but not as well. I tend to expand then consolidate before expanding again it would seem the AI gets stuck in consolidating. None the less the AI left alone long enough can build a decent empire and likes building massive fleets which can come as a bit of a shock even if one on one your ships out class them

I'd like to try

Submitted by Helker on Tue, 2006-11-21 21:09.

I'd like to try to create a mod that just improves the A.I. without changing anything else. The problem is that I have no idea on how to create a mod Sticking out tongue

I asked for advices in the mod forum Eye-wink
