Perhaps someone from SFI can tell us how well sales are going/how many units have been shipped/sold or how many Steam versions have been bought?

Not likely to get a real answer...

There was 644 v0.96 downloads of the Balance Mod. If only ~5-10% of all players who bought the game downloaded the mod, it might suggest a number between 5000-10000 copies sold...?

I asked Julian but he said he didn't know if he could tell us that information, however he did say it's one the S1's biggest sellers.

Got mine of steam...

Since I live in Country where suppliers only import games that seems to be bough by the masses and I have to struggle to get the good games.

Steam solved some of my problems as well as Stardock central so I can by my games online and download them.

EDIT: Which reminds me.. I need to test this offline mode see if it runs.

A better way to ask this

Submitted by SirKid on Sat, 2006-11-25 18:37.

A better way to ask this questions is:

Are sales what you expected, better than expected or worse than expected?

Companies never like to give away hard financial data.

Galciv brought back interest in space empire building games as well, people looking for some change from that game and its success probably spilled over to this game. I always like SE4 and wanted to get this game, but I really only got this because Galciv 2 wan't the type of gameplay I wanted.

I was always a Master of Orion 2 > Master of Orion 1 type of person, I like more complicated games. I only wish this game had a better AI though.

I wonder how many people bought this as their first SE and where they heard of it from or why they decided to buy it?

I actually ran across SEIV on Amazon, I was very disappointed when I bought MOO3 and some one else wrote a comment about MOO3 that you should save your money and go buy SEIV! I was supprised to see this on amazon, because you couldn't get it on amazon.

Sorry I had to mention the unmentionable game...

SEV, more than a feeling.

Another Question to ask: How many people do you think bought this game, Yet do not ever visit internet related SEV sites....And use unpatched games? Those poor souls must be shone the light....

P.S. At any given time their are usually about 100 guests on this site, as well as 8 or 9 registered users...So thats ROUGHLY like 10% of all SEV Universe registered, with 90% as casual visitors?

I bought SEV because it was finally available in retail through Play.com, I would have bought it even If I wasn't going to play it because I support the genre, but I do enjoy it even unperfected.
I did bought GalCivII but I never play it because of the lack of tactical combat. The only 4x game I regret buying is MOO3 because what they did to an existing perfect gameplay -instead of easily improving it and building on it- was unforgivable. After the MOO3 disaster any other 4x is worth trying. I would have respected and supported MOO3 under any other name but.. ok I'm getting out of topic.

What I wanted to point out is, for example in the RTS genre, after the Dune2 and Warcraft success followed HUNDRENDS of clones and many-many of them extremely well done and succesful. I cannot grasp why so few attempts in the 4x genre and most of them trying to reinvent the wheel instead of copying the basic characteristics of the classics. They would not sell millions but the initial 100.000 sales of GalCivII shows that's a substantial market for them as well.

Well that's why I hope SEV will be succesful and expand it's fan-base because it's a authentic approach to the classic 4x genre and it gives the feeling that it's made with original creativity.

Found SE V in BestBuy retailing for 19.99, but at Hastings for 39.99! Hopefully Aaron is getting ANY markups for his game!!
