What am I doing wrong in ground combat ?

Submitted by dimstog on Mon, 2006-11-20 11:44. Space Empires V FAQs

I am new to the Space Empires V universe and everything seemed to work fine until I tried to capture a planet for the first time...

I built some troops, loaded them on a freighter with cargo bays and succesfully unloaded them on the enemy planet. When the ground combat started though.... nothing happened ! My units did not move and the enemy's units didn't either - no moving, no shooting (I activated the automove and autoshoot option from the unit options). I just wait until the timer passes (thank god for fast forward). Anyone have any idea what might be wrong ?

One thing that strikes me as funny is that in the unit report it says that my troops have 0 ordnance and 0 crew, however I didn't find anyway to load them with those.

Oh, am using version 1.13 too

PS Is there anyway to get a transport ship to unload troops on an enemy planet with no defenses ? I attack the planet with just the freighter, but before it reaches the planet to unload the troops, the space combat ends.

GC fixed in 1.17

Submitted by Dragagon on Mon, 2006-11-20 12:53.

Try downloading today's patch of 1.17. The fix list shows that Ground combat for simultaneous movement is fixed. finally, there is meaning for troops again.

I noticed one thing with the

Submitted by carlosjuero on Mon, 2006-11-20 17:16.

I noticed one thing with the ground troops this weekend while playing. If you use the Nuclear Ground Thrusters (any level) the movement stays at 0 in the Unit Design, using the Fusion Ground Thrusters (Contra Terranine engine requirement) shows the movement points again.

This has been fixed with the latest patch I know, just an observation to share Smiling

Hm.... I used both Nuclear

Hm.... I used both Nuclear and Fusion Ground Thrusters to test it and neither worked. Anyway, I started a new game with the 1.17 patch and I now have anti-grav thrusters, gonna give it try sooner or later. But still, at the design screen the crew is listed as 0, I mean is this normal ?

Thanks for the info too Smiling

Troops and crews

Troops don't use crews (go figure) so yes, that's normal.

Okay, I used quantum

Submitted by dimstog on Wed, 2006-11-22 07:52.

Okay, I used quantum thrusters now an it worked. There is another possibility though. The first time I did not declare war before invading, this time I did, maybe that has something to do with it.

Thanks everyone for the replys!
