Question regarding tech restriction

Submitted by carlosjuero on Sat, 2006-11-18 13:46. Space Empires V General

Is there a way to limit the technology available in a new game? In SE:IV you could select techs that could not be researched during the setup of the game, I can't seem to find an option to do that for SE:V. Is there such an option? Can it be done without modding?

The reason I ask is because I like to make games a little more interesting (and conform to personal scenarios) by cutting out techs like Stellar Manipulation or Special techs like Organic/Temporal/etc.

Thanks in advance.

No, I don't think you can do that outside of modding.

You can copy the Data\TechArea.txt file into the GameTypes\Standard SE5\Data folder (probably have to make the folder), and mod it there. This way, you will not have to change any stock data files, but the alterations will still be made to the stock game. Assuming you play stock and not another mod, of course. Eye-wink

Wouldn't editing the text files cause problems if a race's AI script goes looking for a tech that is changed or no longer exists?
