Is there a way to distuinguish between 'enemy' ships and 'ally' ships? Say for example I have a mutual defence pact of some sort with another player, and I put my ships in orbit around his planets to help defend against a common foe, that will make his population unhappy which rather defeats the purpose of the treaty.
On a somewhat related note, I've noticed that having ships in another player's system makes his attitude towards me go down and down until he declares war - again, this is even if we have a treaty. I know it's the presence of my ships and not just general antagonism, because if my ships cloak or leave the system the AI is suddenly all smiles again. So same question different area: is there a way distuinguish between enemy and ally ships?

Ouch
There should be a way to differentiate between "enemy" and "ally"! Can't believe there isn't. Ally's shouldn't be as good as friendly (Japan's populace really isn't happy with the american presence at times...) but shouldn't send them off into riots.
edit:
Oh, having the AI complain about allies ships makes a small degree of sense -- what if you break the treaty, and use your pre-positioned ships to crush their entire empire in one blow?

Those that understand binary, and those that don't.
