Rioting colonists...and consumer

Submitted by putty on Thu, 2006-11-16 14:14. Space Empires V FAQs

Ive recently purchesd SE5 and have installd the v1.13 patch. when i start a
standard game (i have no mods) my colonists rapidly become angry and within
15 turns half my colonies are rioting. im using a custom empire and i choose
"natrually happy" (supposedly the v1.13 patch fixed it working backwords)also ive looked into what affects their happiness. i place
3-4 troop units on each planet (one admin suggested placing 50 on a planet just to counter the effects of a treaty or war...so i have to wait like 40 turns to see any positive production from my planet...is that a joke?...not funny)and im sure to not to allow any enemy
presence. ive even rapidly resreched the religious technology and have built
fate shrines in each system but within 30 turns with so many rioting
colonies the empire tears itself apart. the only explination i can think of
is a strange occurence when i expand the quadrent view. when i click on the
tab that shows enimy systems, all of the systems i control (again with
absolutly no enemy presence) turn red as if an enimy empire controls them.
so perhaps when i build a custom empire(swaping race portrits and emblems) i
somehow trigger my empire into seeing itself as an enemy empire?
thanks in advance for your help

Naturally happy is still working backwards. The patches fixed -other- happyness problems, but not that one.

Rioting

Submitted by evilginger on Sat, 2006-11-18 17:34.

This happened to me a lot with the demo before I learned how to stop it hasn’t since because I have managed to keep my populations happy

Putting down a riot is not easy but can be done with a troop drop of some size 50+ and parking a fleet in orbit troops and orbiting fleets make the colonists feel safe and stop rioting.

2 best thing is to stop it happening and there are a number of things which seem to help. Social research which seems to increase over all empire happiness on top of its noted effect. Garrisoning planets and building defence bases will make people happier as will putting a base in orbit or a few ships.

Toping up the population on small colonies makes them happier as does making sure that they are kept in contact with the empire. Build Space ports first when colonizing a new system. Expanding slowly rather than as fast as possible also helps. Keeping planets resorced as running out of resorces upsets them

There is other stuff but I am sure other kind people will post that here

Seems to have been fixed

Item #14. The naturally happy/unhappy trait being reversed seems to have been fixed as of 1.16.

I garrison minimum of about

Submitted by Zaphod on Sun, 2006-11-19 18:45.

I garrison minimum of about 16-20+ troops on every world shortly after colonizing it. Conquoered race usually get more. The amount of troops in each system add up.
