Another Demo bug

I've had several games crash to desktop after a combat, both tactical and strategic. I don't have any ideas about a specific cause for this, but I'll try to reproduce this.

Ok, that was quicker to reproduce than expected. The game crashes with the following message:

Access violation at addresss 0067574D in module 'se5.exe' Read of address 00000008.

I still don't know why this crashed. Tactical combat. Colony ship warped into a system on the way to colonize a planet. Ship in the destination colony attacked.

Did the colony ship die? I have a sneaking suspicion the game tried to use the dead colony ship to make a colony, then screamed when it couldn't find it.

Yes, the colony ship died, but was at least two turns from the planet it was going to colonize. The program crashed immediately at the end of the combat.
