Changing settings in a saved game.

Submitted by jacob4408 on Wed, 2006-11-15 09:42. Space Empires V General

I was already a year into my game before I remembered to tweak the DesignTypes.txt and add some new ship types. I completely closed SEV and relaunched it and opened my save game. The new DesignTypes aren't there but if I create a new game they are.

Is there any way to get a save game to "refresh" it's look at the data files like DesignTypes.txt?

So far, no. Until someone

So far, no. Until someone comes up with a way to edit the actual savegame and find those entries (I am working on this, but very slow going considering I have no idea how the file is encrypted/stored).

It is quite annoying (in my opinion) that we don't have the 'Add' button in the Design Types screen anymore; that is why I made my utility to at least help with new games.

I made a utility to quickly

Submitted by carlosjuero on Wed, 2006-11-15 11:17.

I made a utility to quickly edit the DesignTypes.txt file without having to edit it manually in Notepad. Not much of a 'feature rich' program but it works well for me Smiling. Main limitation is, like I said, it only effects new games.

I have it hosted on my site because I can't seem to get into the Modders guild for the life of me.

Heres the link if you want to take a look at it:

I am still working on adding more features and abilities - such as an ability to modify the save game (this will be a long time in coming probably) and to have multiple 'profiles' of the file. I might add on abilities to change other files as well, but I want to make sure I don't enroach on the others here who are creating editors for various sections of the game.
