Plasma Missiles -- Why?

AngleWyrm's picture

Plasma missiles require Chemistry-2 (30,000RP), whereas capitol ship missiles only require Missile Weapons-1 (3,000RP). For ten times the research investment, you'de think it would be better some kind of way.

How is a Plasma Missile better than a Capitol Ship Missile?

Plasma Missiles

I haven't seen them in-game yet, but I think they had a faster rate of speed in SEIV - i.e. would go farther per turn to hit the target. I don't recall that they were much better in terms of damage or cost, but I'll have to check.

@Angle Wyrm: Look in \data\components.txt ...

plasma-missiles make demage after an other formula (more demage at short distances) and cost half the resources of CSM

(@caduceus: they have (at least now) the same speed and turning rate ...)

if you think, that difference is not worth the research effort, feel free to change the file ...

I remember in SEIV using plasma missiles a lot, they had a massive range compared to capitol ship missiles.

In SEIV plasma missiles have better range, higher speed, and do increasing damage at shorter ranges as compared to the CSM.

I've tried that, but it says "invalid data for this demo version", so apparently I'm not allowed to feel 'free' to change the file. I can maybe change it after I pay real money for the privelege of working on this software project.

Sorry, little grumpy there.

Level 1 plasma missles do

Submitted by Zerikin Loukbel on Tue, 2006-09-26 16:19.

Level 1 plasma missles do 70-80 at point blank, 40-50 at max range and cost half the resources to build and maintain. So more power at close range, weaker at long range, but cheaper to build.

Now I changed components.txt, but I didn't encounter any problems ...
