Fleets won't attack planets

Submitted by Shakerfish on Fri, 2006-11-10 11:24. Space Empires V General

Does anyone know why my fleets won’t attack enemy planets? They have planet bombs, supplies and ordinance. We are at war so we have no treaty. My fleets will attack other fleets and fleets in orbit around an enemy planet, but when ordered to attack a planet they just run away and exit the battle zone. Is there some element of research I need to do? I’ve installed the 1.13 patch.

Thanks

Got the answer on other post.

I didn’t know that setting a “no bombardment” treaty with another race meant you couldn’t bomb enemy races either. Doesn't make sense to me but... OK.

Thanks for your help.

Useless Treaty...

Submitted by Shakerfish on Fri, 2006-11-10 11:58.

This seems hokey to me. If you have a treaty with another race not to bombard planets this works fine so they won’t attack your planets, but if your at war with another race who does not have a bombardment treaty with any race they can still bomb your planets?

I think they should rethink this type of treaty and have it so that if you have a treaty with another race not to bomb each other planets you can still bomb planets of a race you are at war with.

With the current programming of the game I find the “No Bombardment” treaty useless to me. Suggestions anyone???

"No Bombardment" conditions under revision

The functionality of the "No Bombardment treaty" is actively being addressed in the next patch. This will include fixing the described situation.

An example only....

I think of the "no bombardment" treaties as being along the lines of real life treaties forbidding the use of "weapons of mass destruction". The US might sign those with only a few nations, but they bind us from turning any little backwater into glass simply because we feel like it (afganistan, for example...).

[off-topic]Man, are you really that naive??? Since when has the USA (especially under Bushwacker) felt bound by anything? It would be funny if it wasn't so tragicomic. You should feel really good about not glassing Afghanistan ... go have a look over there and tell them how lucky they are. I recommend you watch "Wag the dog" some time, it's scary how real life mimics parody these days and you are apparently living it eyes wide shut.[/off-topic]

A lot of cranky folks around today.

We'll be safer without politics here.

That was theory-craft "this is the idea" not real world politics. Shoulda stated that upfront like I did in the other thread where I used a similar example.

Dude, chill. You might not like Bush, someone else might love him ... but if you want an example of where Bush is complying with a treaty, and Clinton did not, consider the program allowing Mexican truckers to drive anywhere in the US now. NAFTA stipulated this, Clinton ignored this element of the treaty, but some panel told Bush he had to comply, and guess what, against the wishes of many Americans, he's complying. By the vitriol you have against Bush, one can only conclude that you're a liberal Democrat - most if not all of whom loved Clinton.

Respect the office even if you cannot respect the man. If you voted for PersonA, and PersonB gets elected, guess what - you elected PersonB by virtue of participating. And if you didn't participate, then you have no right to complain about the elected at all.
