Error with Empire creation

Bugbear's picture
Submitted by Bugbear on Thu, 2006-11-09 15:39. Space Empires V General

I have patch 13 and Balance mod 95.

If I select a Racial trait of say "religion" and then go in to Technology section I do not have that as an option to advance religion nor is it listed.

Some of my races I had created previously with the trait Organic. List Crystial as an avalalbe technology in the Tech section of empire creation. Anyone else seen this.

Don't think it's implemented yet

I don't think the racial trait technologies have been made selectable in the startup tech selection screen. The AI can and does add them - but humans players couldn't.

This appears to still be the case in 1.13; I hope it will be fixed soon. I'd like to be able to create strongly-themed races, with for example high levels of Organic technology but completely lacking in other typical areas.

Interestingly, EmpireGainedAbilities.txt implies that it is possible to set up a mod such that (for example) an organic hull can *only* have organic components, at least until certain later abilities are researched. If the standard 3-prong power connectors the hull comes with are "fluorinated blood, depleted blood, and bile" as opposed to "electrical hot, electrical return, and electrical ground", there might be some difficulty making adapters Smiling

Found the trick

Submitted by Bugbear on Fri, 2006-11-10 09:53.

Here is how you can do it. Create a race with the trait you want them to have the tech in. Set the initial Technology points to high under game settings(Might have the wrong term, I don't have the game at work). On the frist turn research your trait. Say organic. You should be at level 1 when the turn is finished. Put all your points into it. After you hit level 1 in say Organic. Save the empire. If you did not make it the first term keep resarching.

On a new game when you load empire they should have level 1 organic if when you saved the game they had organic 1.

Takes a while but you can create empires that start with a level or 2 in there racial trait. I like playing games were the computer players start out with some high tech. Genocidal/religious with ship size of Battle ships and level 1 weapons. Or an empire that Has high tech fighters at the start.

create ai empires?

Submitted by nubbin on Sat, 2006-11-11 00:44.

Is there a way to create an empire then change it so the ai can use it? I just want to pick starting techs for the AI and give them the names I want. I created a bunch of empires and did the trick you mention above, but you can't set them to AI (player only). Any way around that? I see the AI file and file structure. The empires you create at the beginning of a game save under a different structure (presumably because they are meant for player only races.)

Uh, you can. :)

When creating the empire, there's a checkbox on the first screen that says "set as computer player" or some such. Just set that and there you go.

Could be good that the checkbox would be marked by defect? I use to play alone... just an idea

weird...probable bug

Submitted by nubbin on Sat, 2006-11-11 21:07.

Ok I tried the method above where you start a game with the different empires and research your area to start. Save the empire. then I come back and create another game. I load up the empire and for whatever reason, the thing is not there. But the weird part is that for one race I had them with Crystal tech, got to level one, saved the race and now it shows Physic Tech. The other one I picked Organic and it when I load the race again now it shows Crystal Tech. The racial traits didn't change. So the empire with organic racial trait has the crystal tech even though they should n't be able to research it.
