1.13 Still hangs on turn process

Submitted by PyroMancer on Mon, 2006-11-06 23:14. Bug Reports

You know most of the minor bugs like ordiance loss and such are kinda of annoying but non of them were game stopping. I was glad to see 1.13 coming out and hoping it would fix a lot of the major game bugs. Well I dnld and installed the 1.13 patch and was ready to get in some SEV when I started playing everything seemed fine at first but the I got the Lock at Processing End of turn hang bug again. It just sits there and doesn't do anything.

I have exactly the same

Submitted by Gurachn on Wed, 2006-11-08 09:52.

I have exactly the same problem. Shutting down and resuming brings me to the next turn with no loss of data, but it is a waste of time to shut down and restart after each turn.
Any ideas?

Might help vs freezing?

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Wed, 2006-11-08 10:42.

Are you sure it's hanging though? I've noticed some long wait times but not freezes. (Which I suspect are due to the small space combat map radius setting - change this line to like 2000 from 1000 and see if that helps...)

Improvements

Submitted by Arnesson on Wed, 2006-11-08 13:45.

I have wondered, through the several generations of this game that I have owned, why no thought has been given to providing for the upgrade of units.

I'll try lowering the map

Submitted by PyroMancer on Fri, 2006-11-10 02:44.

I'll try lowering the map size not sure it'll help though. And yea i'm sure it's a hang when you wait over 30mins (watched a whole episode of the simpsons while i waited) then it's a hang. I Ussually give it 5-10 mins as I like to play the game while I surf the web so i'm not staring at the turn processing screen.

I tried several things like not runnning it in window mode which doesn't work cause it won't run the turns then when i alt tab >(. Even so it still locks in full screen. I got the same work around as gurachan which is reboot but that's a waste after everyturn and having to manually save each time cause the autosave does it at the START of the turn. Something I never could figure out on turn based games. I mean if you wanna load the last turn cause you realized you made a mistake but just need to fix one thing you don't wanna have to redo all those orders just change the one thing you forgot. Oh and I tried turning off the autosave everyturn that didn't help any. Still does it. But one turn run then hang next turn is no way to play the game.

Well, if youg o back to the start of the turn you can undo your mistake. If you go back to the end of the turn, its already made and you're stuck with it if its ship movement or something similar.

Also, by placing autosave at the start of a turn, you "backup" right before you start displaying the turns options (most autosaves actually occur a little BEFORE the turn starts... call it on player "0"'s turn).

Those that understand binary, and those that don't.
