Invading planets in SEV

Submitted by evilginger on Fri, 2006-11-03 16:50. Space Empires V FAQs

Just a quick one but I am not sure how to do this I know troops are effectively cargo when it comes to transporting them between friendly planets but how does it work on enemy ones. I don’t think I ever used troops in SEIV so that doesn’t really help all that much. Yes I was a Genocidal maniac I admit it but I would like to try to capture all those nice installations this time. And what happens if the planet is defended is there a space battle first? Or can you just not land troops in that case

You can load troops onto any

Submitted by SirKid on Fri, 2006-11-03 21:38.

You can load troops onto any ship that has cargo space and use them to invade a planet. If you did not design a ship that has the Capture Planet tactic, then you will have to manually do it during tactical combat. A ship that has troops onboard during tactical combat will have the capture planet button available. Just select the transport, select the capture planet button and then the planet. The transport will approach the planet and you will see a little shuttle leave the transport and fly into the planet. At this time you will receive a message that ground combat will be resolved at the end of the turn. You have to make sure you rother ships do not wipe out the planet before your transport reaches the it. I've noticed that when I have a ship designed to capture planets with the correct orders, the AI will not destroy the planet, but If I using a ship manually they will.

I put my Transport in a different task force

Submitted by raynor on Sun, 2006-11-05 03:24.

I don't know if this makes a difference. But just to make sure everything works according to plan, I usually put my transport with my troops in a separate task force. Then, I give that task force the Attack Strategy - Capture Planet. This seems to work pretty well.

I am currently not using

Submitted by obliwobly on Tue, 2006-11-28 18:44.

I am currently not using fleets because of the ordinance bug where ordinance disappears in fleets. Once that is fixed then catpture planet orders will I believe restrain your planet killers as well as cause your tranporters to drop troops.

In order to secure your killer ships you can simply clear the target they are using with the button on the control interface, then they wont fire unless you select a new target, you can also deselect autotarget and automove whcih is behind another button, to make them sit still and behave! This is best done in the pause before SP battle commences presuming you have got rid of enemy ships.

That should be fixed

Get 1.17, it should clear that bug up.

You can pause at any time in the battles, remember, so if you can turn off automove/target at your leisure.

To Clarify

Submitted by Rilbur on Tue, 2006-11-28 23:42.

To clarify Phoenix's statment, it doesn't clear up invading planets, it clears up the ordinance bug Laughing out loud

Edit: (at least, thats what I HOPE he means...)
