Atmospheric Modification plant

Submitted by Thunar on Fri, 2006-11-03 02:47. Space Empires V General

yesterday i finaly saw an atmospheric modification plant change the atmosphere of a planet.
Yet i have still some issues with it.
9.5 years (95 turns) is a long period to change a planet with maxed out techs. any chance the max level can be changed so that it is possible in like 5.0 years ? lvl 10 plant would be awesome. (i know i could do it easely myself, but i don't want to 'mod' myself for one subject i don't like, IMHO you play the stock game or you play a full mod, but don't mess around and only change things you don't like)

Also a hughe inprovement would be to be able to see somewhere on a planet how much time is left before the atmosphere is changed. the planet info dialog could be counting down each turn. atm it is stuck at 10 (or 9.5) year till it is done.

‹ Mine Cloaking Seems like i cant start the game, help please? ›

It takes forever to get

It takes forever to get those plants too. I've been satisfied with just capturing other races that breathe different atmospheres then breeding them and sending them to different planets.

another (fast) way to

Submitted by Thunar on Fri, 2006-11-03 10:08.

another (fast) way to terraform planets is once you can destroy and create planets is to nuke them and build them again out off the astroid belts.
takes a few tries sometimes to create it, but no need to wait 95 turns for a planet to be breathable.
of course the research requirements to do this are a bit steep

It seems odd that it takes

Submitted by SirKid on Fri, 2006-11-03 13:18.

It seems odd that it takes less time to build a planet from a pile of rocks (including atmosphere) than it is to just change the atmosphere. So, maybe there is a good argument for changing it.

Hey, will building more than one plant on a planet speed things up?

I didn't actually time it,

Submitted by Stormhound on Sun, 2006-11-05 09:21.

I didn't actually time it, but it didn't seem to take 95 turns for the AM to work in the game I just finished. It was a while, yes, but not that long. Is there anything else that might affect the speed with which it works?

Each level of atmosphere converter works faster than the previous one...the highest level converts the atmosphere in 5 turns IIRC, which is less time than it takes to build the danged thing on a planet with no space yard!

.... way to bring back a long dead thread.

I believe this was actually fixed in a patch.
