Engines and a question

Lonewolf187's picture

Hello everyone:
I just recently got my copy of SEV, and I love the game. I love what you can do in it, and it has everything I've been looking for in a 4x game (namely the fact that you can build carriers and the fighters). Anyway I have a concern and a question. Please keep in mind this is the only SE game I've played so if my concern and questions seem "noobish", I apologize. I have however played MOO2 and Stars! in the past and still play Stars! once in a while.

The concern I have is in regard to engines. For example the Quantum engine gives 1 movement and 3 bonus movement points. However it has only been giving the bonus movement on the fist engine placed on the hull. Is it supposed to do that? Or are all the engines supposed to give you all the movement up to the max rating for the hull?

And the question I have is what benefit do Bio. and Crystal hulls give for base benefits? I know the Bio and Crystal lines give you special tech (shard cannon for crystal and lightning ray for bio for example), but do the hulls themselves give base bonuses? I've looked through both manuals (the retail manual and the PDF) but I can't find anything about it.

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

crystaline and organic hulls

Submitted by Thunar on Thu, 2006-11-02 08:56.

crystaline and organic hulls give no real bonus except that their resource cost is different from the normal hulls.
since minerals are usualy highest cost of a ship, it evens the costs out a little. (bit less mineral costs, but more radioctives or organics cost)
balancing your upkeep, or even allowing you to build ships faster

Engines

The bonus movement is applied only once and only if all the engines are of the same type.

The Hull size is different

I don't know about Organic, But the Crystalline Dreadnaught hull size is around 400 Tons larger than the base Dreadnaught hull, fully researched. The other hull sizes are the same.

A Fully loaded Crystalline Dreadnaught with a fully researched and weapon mounted High Energy Magnifier (also a crystalline weapon) can do somewhere around 35,000 points of damage in one shot...

Bonus Movement is bugged

Not quite - there is a "bug" in SE:V that allows you to mix engines and still get the movement bonus.

Data File Error

The larger Crystalline/Organic ships was a typo and has been in corrected for the upcoming patch.

So the only difference in stock is it balances out the costs slightly?

I think this was fixed in the last patch. In my last game I had to put all the same type engines to get the bonus.

Thanks for info, and another bug maybe?

Submitted by Lonewolf187 on Thu, 2006-11-02 10:55.

Thanks everyone for your info.
I was just messing around with satellites and I noticed something. I created a large bio satellite and had two beam weapons (lightning rays) and a quantum generator on it and tested it out in the simulator. In the simulator it listed the supplies at 50/50 and after five shots the satellite was out and dead in the water. I went and redesigned it with a large supply storage and tried it in the simulator again but the supplies did not change and stayed at 50/50. Is this a bug or design in the game?

Its "sort of" fixed- you can use Ion Engines and any other type, but if you mix, say, Quantum Engines with Jacketed Photon, you lose the bonus from the Quantums.
